Keep your fur babies warm! We will take care of their business in the spring! 💩👫
We will be open regular business hours this week.
Over the next few days, keep cats inside and take your dog outside only long enough to go the bathroom. Dogs can experience hypothermia and frostbite, especially on feet, ears and tails. Symptoms of hypothermia include excessive shivering, weakness, inaudible heartbeat, trouble breathing or looking for places to burrow, depending on severity.
Other tips include:
❄️ Bundle them up in coats and booties (if they will wear them) or try massaging petroleum jelly or other paw protectants into paw pads before going outside
❄️ Be prepared to go outside and pick up your dog if they start lifting their feet up off the ground; it may be too cold for them to walk back across the yard!
❄️ Wipe paws, legs and bellies when they come inside to remove ice, snow and salt. Monitor their paws for injuries and ice between their toes. Shards of ice may cut pads.
❄️ Don’t leave pets alone in a car during cold weather, as cars can act as refrigerators that hold in the cold and cause animals to freeze to death.
❄️ Since their outside time will be limited, find other mentally stimulating activities such as hide and seek, stuffing kongs, hiding treats around the house, snuffle mats, or other creative ways for them to search for their food.
