Position: Part-Time Pet Sitter
📅 Monday–Friday
🕙 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Responsibilities:
🐾 Walk and exercise dogs
🐾 Care for cats and other household pets
🐾 Feed pets and provide fresh water
🐾 Administer medications (training available)
🐾 Clean litter boxes and pick up waste
🐾 Provide companionship, love, and attention
🐾 Send updates and photos to pet parents

Requirements:
✔ Must love animals of all kinds
✔ Reliable transportation is required
✔ Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance
✔ Dependable, trustworthy, and punctual
✔ Comfortable working independently
✔ Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
✔ Ability to pass a background check
✔ Previous pet care or veterinary experience is a plus, but not required—we will train the right person!

I’ve been fortunate enough to be recognized in several “Best Of” contests over the years, and while I appreciate the support from clients and the community, I’ve always had mixed feelings about how these contests are structured.

One thing I’ve never fully understood is the ability for people to vote every day. In my opinion, a true “Best Of” contest would allow one vote per person. Daily voting can often become more about who can generate the most reminders and social media campaigns rather than who consistently provides the best service.

I also wonder how many people voting have actually used the businesses they are selecting. A meaningful review or vote should ideally come from firsthand experience with a company, its services, and its customer care.

Another concern I have is the financial aspect that often follows winning. Businesses are frequently offered advertising packages, plaques, promotional materials, and other opportunities that come with significant costs. While I understand these contests are sponsored and have expenses associated with them, I don’t believe a business should feel pressured to spend money in order to celebrate or promote an award they have already earned.

To be honest, I have never understood how my business ends up being nominated in the first place. I don’t campaign heavily for votes, and winning awards has never been my primary focus.

What matters most to me is not a trophy, a title, or a ranking. What matters is knowing that my clients are happy, their pets are receiving exceptional care, and that my team and I have made a positive difference in the lives of the families we serve.

At the end of the day, the greatest reward isn’t being voted “Best Of.” It’s the trust our clients place in us year after year. That is what truly makes this work worthwhile.

I wanted to take a moment to explain what happened to Stella, as many have reached out and asked. My hope is that by sharing her story, it can also help bring awareness to this condition.

Stella was a French Bulldog, a breed that is unfortunately predisposed to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD). This condition affects the discs in the spine and can lead to pain, nerve damage, and in severe cases, paralysis.

Thursday night, I noticed Stella was walking abnormally and seemed uncomfortable, so I took her immediately to the emergency hospital where a neurologist was available. While undergoing testing over the next few hours, her condition progressed rapidly and she became paralyzed. She was taken straight to MRI, which confirmed a ruptured disc, and she went into emergency surgery.

Initially, she did well after surgery, but she never regained feeling in her back legs. Within 24 hours, her condition began to decline. The paralysis started to move up her spine, and we were told that if it continued, it would eventually affect her ability to breathe.

Stella developed a rare and devastating complication called myelomalacia. This occurs in a small percentage of IVDD cases and causes progressive destruction of the spinal cord. Sadly, there is no treatment once it begins to progress, and the outcome is always fatal.

As her condition worsened, I made the decision to let her go peacefully rather than allow her to suffer. It was the hardest decision I have ever had to make.

Stella was only a little over a year old and brought so much love, joy, and laughter into our lives in such a short time. She was deeply loved and fought so hard.

I also want to share this because responsible breeding is so incredibly important. Please make sure you ask about genetic testing, health clearances, and bloodlines before supporting a breeder. French Bulldogs are an amazing breed, but they are also prone to serious health issues.

When breeders do not follow proper testing and ethical practices, it contributes to the suffering of these dogs—and they do not deserve that. Supporting responsible, health-focused breeding helps protect the future of this breed and the well-being of the dogs we love so much.

I share this not only to honor Stella, but to help others understand how quickly this condition can progress, even when everything is done right. Hug your babies a little tighter tonight.
