Pet suffocation from.chip bags, pet food bags and more is very real. Be sure all garbage and bags are out of sight of your pets.
Sadly, this 8 year old German Shepherd named Diesel suffocated in a pet food bag last week, crushing his family. Anita Thomas writes, "I just want to share what happened to our sweet Diesel last week to bring awareness and hopefully prevent a tragedy like this from happening to your fur baby.
We store the dogs’ food in large containers, so whenever we get a new bag, we cut a corner of the bag off, fill the containers and put the empty dog food bag aside by the door to discard whenever the trash gets taken out. We’ve done this as long as we’ve had dogs (forever). Last Tuesday night was no different; they all got fed in the evening and everyone went to bed as normal.
Diesel was very food driven, so he decided to get the empty bag and lick the inside of it. He ended up putting his entire head inside the bag and quickly ran out of oxygen. We don’t think he even tried to get his head out because there wasn’t any sign of a struggle, and he just looked like he went to sleep with his head on top of his paws. The thought of this happening never entered our minds, but we’ll definitely be more aware of suffocation hazards in the future.
Give your fur babies extra snuggles tonight and keep them safe. 🐾❤️"
Pet suffocation is always unexpected and shocking. This is a gentle reminder to not leave pet food bags or any other food bags out where your pets can access them.
