Friendly Reminder from Warren Animal Control

As summer approaches and the temperatures continue to rise, we'd like to remind everyone that the City of Warren has an ordinance prohibiting leaving pets unattended in a hot vehicle.

City Ordinance Sec. 7-63 (9411) makes it unlawful to leave a pet in a hot car. Violators may receive a misdemeanor citation, and if an animal is found to be in distress or danger, additional charges may apply.

Please also remember that streets, sidewalks, and pavement can become extremely hot during the day. These surfaces can burn or injure your pet's paws. Whenever possible, walk your pets in the early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler.

During periods of extreme heat, you may also place clean, fresh water outside for birds and other wildlife. Please provide water only.

Let's all work together to keep our pets and local wildlife safe this summer.

Warren Residents,

This is another friendly reminder: we have been receiving calls regarding owners allowing their dogs to run loose in front of their homes.

The City of Warren has a leash law that requires all pets to be on a leash unless they are kept in a securely contained area with proper shelter and access to clean water at all times.

Please note that invisible fencing systems do not meet this requirement, as they are known to fail on occasion.

We would also like to remind residents that bringing stray dogs or other animals from another city into Warren may violate local and state ordinances. While many people believe they are helping an animal, owners of lost pets typically search in the city where the pet went missing and often do not look outside their community. Transporting an animal to another city can greatly reduce the chances of reuniting it with its owner.

Warren Animal Control has limited kennel space, including two large kennels and three small kennels. It is important that some of these kennels remain available for emergencies and other urgent situations. When animals are brought into Warren from other jurisdictions, it can place additional strain on our available resources.

Warren Animal Control utilizes microchip scanners to help identify owners; however, microchips may not always be present or readable. We will make every effort to assist in finding solutions for stray animals, but in some cases, the individual who finds the animal may need to assume temporary responsibility for its care until appropriate arrangements can be made.
