Compassionate Animal Rescue Efforts of Dutchess County - CARE of DC CARE of DC is a "No Kill" organization. We take in animals that are "at risk" and try to find forever homes for them.

CARE of DC is a "No Kill", non profit organization. Our goal is to save as many animals from euthanasia as possible. We take our animals from high kill shelters and work to rehabilitate them and find forever homes. Our organization works closely with other rescues and shelters that share in our values. We have developed a strong network of "no kill" partners and we assist them on a regular basis.

We take in corporate donations, warehouse them and then work to distribute the donated food and supplies to our partners in need.

Gertie is around 8 years old and looking for a family to call her own! This sweet girl was found as a local stray, but you’d never know it from her loving personality.

Gertie is the perfect mix of playful and affectionate. She enjoys getting outside, exploring, and showing off her lively personality, but her favorite place is right by your side—or even better, curled up in your lap soaking up all the love and attention she can get.

Have you ever seen a sweeter face?? 🤎

Say hello to Rocco! This sweet boy was found as a local stray. We think he’s about two years old, and we can already tell he’s a special boy!

He’s playful and silly, but also so gentle. We can tell he lived in a home in the past, as he seems potty trained and has great manners.
He would make a wonderful family dog! He loves all people. We aren’t sure how he is with other pets yet, but we do allow foster to adopt so you can see how he settles in. If you have a dog, we’ll also do a meet-and-greet to make sure it’s a good fit.

Puppy playtime was in full swing today! 🐾☀️

These are just a few of the adorable puppies currently available for adoption! They spent the morning running, playing, and enjoying the sunshine while they wait for their forever families to find them.

Meet Shelly! 🐾🐚💜

Shelly is 2 months old and just as sweet as they come. She loves people, enjoys playtime, and is already mastering the art of looking absolutely adorable no matter what she’s doing.

As for her breed? Your guess is as good as ours! She has a little “mini Doberman meets Chihuahua meets mystery mutt” vibe going on, but we have no idea who her parents are, so no promises on what she’ll look like or how big she’ll get. Right now she currently weighs 7 pounds. Our best guess is that she’ll stay in the small-to-medium size range, but puppies love to surprise us!

Shelly is looking for a family that’s ready for all the fun that comes with raising a puppy. In return, she’ll provide endless entertainment, unconditional love, and those big puppy eyes that are impossible to say no to.

Rocket is still looking for a home. ❤️

Rocket is almost 4 months old and, honestly, he’s more than ready to leave shelter life behind and find a family of his own.

He’s a really sweet puppy who just likes being around people. He enjoys toys and will play with the other dogs, but he’d much rather follow you around and see what you’re doing. If you’re looking for a puppy that wants to be part of everything, Rocket fits the bill.

He’s friendly with other dogs and has done well with everyone he’s met so far. He hasn’t met any cats yet, but with proper introductions we think he’d likely do just fine.

Rocket currently weighs about 14 pounds. We don’t know what breed mix he is, but we’re guessing he’ll end up being a medium-sized dog once he’s fully grown.

Like all puppies, he’ll need continued training, patience, and plenty of love, but he’s got a wonderful temperament and is going to make a great companion for a lucky family.

Meet Meryl! 🖤🐾

Meryl is a 4-month-old Lab mix, with the sweet, affectionate personality Labs are known and loved for. While we can’t say for sure what she’s mixed with, one thing we do know is that she is an incredibly kind, loving puppy.

Meryl enjoys making new friends, soaking up attention, and being wherever her people are. She’s still a puppy, so she’s learning all the important things that come with growing up, but she has a wonderful temperament and is eager to please.

There’s something about Ironhide that just makes people smile.

Maybe it’s his happy little puppy wiggles. Maybe it’s the way he thinks every dog he meets should automatically be his best friend. Or maybe it’s because he’s at that perfect age where everything is exciting and every day is a new adventure.

Ironhide is 3 month’s old and is a playful, friendly puppy who loves spending time with other dogs and soaking up all the attention he can get. He’s curious about the world, quick to make friends, and has the kind of sweet personality that makes you look forward to coming home.

We aren’t sure what breeds make up this handsome boy, but we’re guessing he’ll be around 40 pounds or so when fully grown.

Right now, Ironhide is waiting for a family of his own—a family to teach him, grow with him, and love him through all the puppy stages and beyond. In return, he’ll give you a lifetime of loyalty, laughter, and unconditional love.

Meet Skipper!
This adorable 2-month-old mixed breed puppy is looking for a family of his very own. Just one look at that sweet face and those puppy-dog eyes, and you’ll understand why everyone who meets him falls head over heels.

Skipper is a happy, playful little guy who loves making new friends. He’s done great with the other puppies he’s met and is always ready for a game, an adventure, or a cuddle when playtime is over.

We don’t know exactly what breeds make up this handsome boy, but based on his current size, we estimate he’ll grow into a medium-sized dog, likely around 40–50 pounds.

Like all puppies, Skipper is looking for a family ready to help him learn, grow, and experience all the wonderful things life has to offer. In return, he’ll provide plenty of laughs, love, and puppy kisses.

Meet Sailor! ⚓️

Sailor is about 2 months old and looking for a family of his own.

He’s a happy, playful puppy who spends his days wrestling with his siblings, investigating absolutely everything, and perfecting the art of puppy naps. We aren’t sure what his breed mix is, currently he is about 11 pounds but we estimate he will be a medium sized dog once he’s fully grown (around 40 pounds)

Like all puppies, Sailor will need a family ready for training, socialization, and all the fun that comes with raising a young pup. The puppy stage goes by fast, and Sailor would love to spend it in a home instead of waiting at the shelter.
