This week, October 18-24, is "National Veterinary Technician Week" when the veterinary profession takes the time to pay homage to its technicians. Whether admitting patients, discussing/explaining test and/or exam results, assisting with surgeries, dentals and emergencies, consoling an owner, working with veterinarians in the exam room, trimming nails, and much much more, veterinary technicians are a vital cog in the process of providing proper veterinary care. With that in mind we want to take a few moments to both appreciate and thank our own Super Hero crew of technicians: Supervisor/Head LVT Noelle, LVT Maria, David, and LVT Bella. A big shoutout and "Thank-You" to all four members of our technician team. You are the best!!!

It is once again that time of the year when we take a few moments to remind everyone that late May thru late June is the time of year when female turtles of all types in our region need to leave the safety of their ponds, lakes, swamps, streams and rivers in order to find the perfect spot to lay their eggs.

Due to development, commercial and residential, in many areas the journey is often perilous as the turtles need to traverse busy roads and highways in order to get to the nesting sites which are normally the place in which mama turtle was hatched.

Please exercise caution when driving through known turtle crossings. If you do decide to stop and help a turtle cross a road, gently grasp it on the sides of its shell and move it in the direction in which its head is pointing as that is where it needs to go. Moving a turtle back to its original spot only increases the chance of the turtle being injured or killed by passing traffic. If trying to assist a snapping turtle, we find that the best way to avoid a "snap" while helping the turtle is to use a floormat from your vehicle in order to move the turtle along. And please-DO NOT grasp a snapping turtle by the tail!

We send a big "Thank-You" to anyone who helps a turtle to safely navigate the journey to and from the nesting sites. By utilizing proper procedures we can help to increase success rates and therefore the survival of our reptilian friends .

And finally, give yourself a pat on the back for a good deed!

Talk about the look of panic!! When informed that tomorrow is Memorial Day, "Kitten", one of our feline staff members, was surprised and then bolted for the nearest cat tower while complaining that she is petrified by fireworks!!

While "Kitten" may have gotten her holidays confused, let's remember that Memorial Day is a time for reflection, homage, and appreciation of the sacrifices made by our military veterans, past and present, in defense of our freedoms. Please join with us as we send a well deserved shout-out to all of these real life heroes. We will never forget.

This week is designated "National Veterinary Receptionist Week" when the industry recognizes the importance, hard work, dedication, and accomplishments of our veterinary receptionists- far too often their contributions to the care of patients and clients alike are overlooked. And so we would like to end the week on a high note by giving a shoutout and big "THANK-YOU" to our own front desk crew of Carrie, Carol, Nancy, and Amy. You are all an integral part of our team and so appreciated!!!!
