If your pet is constantly scratching, licking their paws, rubbing their face, or dealing with recurring ear irritation, it can be tempting to focus on one thing:

How do we make the itching stop?

But itching is a symptom, and sometimes the most helpful thing we can do is get curious about the pattern behind it.

Where does your pet itch most?

Is it seasonal or year-round?

Do ear issues keep coming back?

Did anything change in their food, treats, environment or routine?

Does everything improve for a while, only to flare again?

Those details may seem small, but together they can provide important clues.

August is Itchy Pet Awareness Month, so we’re using it as an opportunity to encourage pet parents to look a little more closely at what their pets may be communicating through their skin. 🐾

And of course, persistent itching deserves veterinary evaluation, since there can be many different causes.

If your pet has already been evaluated but you feel like you’re still trying to piece together the bigger picture, Sunny, our in-house Pet Nutritionist & Holistic Pet Health Coach, is available to work alongside the Full Circle veterinary team and take a closer look at nutrition, lifestyle, history, and patterns.

Just ask us about setting up a consultation. 💙

“My pet is itchy. What food should I switch to?”

It’s a very understandable question, but sometimes the better first question is:
Do we actually know that food is the problem?

Food can absolutely be part of the picture for some pets.

But ongoing itching can have many potential contributors, which is why repeatedly jumping from chicken to beef to salmon to a limited-ingredient food can sometimes leave pet parents with more questions than answers.

One of the most useful things you can do is start tracking patterns.

When does the itching happen?

What foods, treats, chews and flavored supplements are being given?

Are there digestive changes too?

Is it worse during certain seasons?

Are recurring ear issues or paw licking part of the story?

The goal isn’t to eliminate every ingredient your pet has ever eaten.

It’s to become a better detective. 🔎🐾

At Full Circle, we believe nutrition works best when it’s considered as part of the whole pet, and alongside appropriate veterinary care.

If your pet seems stuck in that frustrating itch → improve → flare again cycle, you’re welcome to ask about a consultation with Sunny, our in-house Pet Nutritionist & Holistic Pet Health Coach.

Together, we can take a more systematic look at the nutritional and lifestyle pieces of the puzzle rather than simply guessing at the next food.

Call, message us, or comment "Itchy" to learn how you can set up a consultation!

Has your dog been scratching for so long that you've stopped really noticing it?

Maybe it started with a little paw licking, and then came the ear infections that cleared up with drops and circled right back a few months later, and somewhere along the way, you started keeping extra towels by the back door because loose stools became a normal Tuesday.

Most of us learn to live with these things, partly because each one seems small on its own, and partly because we get told it's just allergies or a sensitive stomach.

What I want you to know is that chronic inflammation is usually the common thread running underneath all of it, and when inflammation is allowed to simmer for years, it creates exactly the conditions that serious disease, including cancer, needs in order to take hold.

I care about this as much as I do because of my own dog, Nacho.

He was a Cane Corso, and after his cancer diagnosis, we were told he had about two months. He lived ten, and he spent most of that time still running, still eating, still completely himself.

What carried him there was food, herbs, and a lot of small intentional choices made every single day, which is the knowledge I wish I'd had years earlier, before he ever got sick.

So I put it all into a free guide because I would rather you have it now than wish for it later.

Inside you'll find:

🔹 The Inflammation Roadmap, a clear visual breakdown of how everyday symptoms like itching, ear infections, and diarrhea escalate over time toward serious disease

🔹 5 chef-crafted healing recipes built around TCVM thermal principles, seasonal eating, and cancer-fighting herbs and mushrooms

🔹 A 7-Day Inflammation Reset Checklist you can start tonight, with one manageable step per day instead of a complete overhaul

Every recipe comes from my professional kitchen background, my clinical training in TCVM food therapy and Western herbalism, and everything I learned keeping Nacho comfortable and happy far longer than anyone expected.

Your dog's body has been talking to you this whole time, so let's help you understand what it's saying.

I've dropped the download link in the first comment below, so grab it whenever you're ready. 🐾

Let me ask you something about your dog's bowl. Or your cat's.

Are you confident that what's in it is actually working for your animal?

Not for pets in general. Not for the one on the bag, but yours.

Because if any of this sounds familiar, the answer is probably no:

🔸 Loose stool that never quite firms up
🔸 Straining, or three days between poops
🔸 Itchy paws, goopy ears, rusty tear stains
🔸 Hot spots that come back every summer
🔸 A waistline that disappeared two years ago
🔸 Gas that clears a room
🔸 A dog who picks at breakfast and eats grass instead
🔸 A cat vomiting so regularly you've stopped calling it unusual

Here's what the research says about that first one:

In dogs with chronic GI issues, 50-66% respond to a dietary change alone.

In one study of 136 dogs with chronic diarrhea, 66% went into full remission on a properly designed elimination diet. No drugs. Food.

That's not a supplement or antibiotic fixing. That's the diet finally matching the animal.

Most pet parents aren't doing anything wrong. They're doing exactly what the bag told them to do.

But a bag can't see your pet's gut, coat, weight, breed, age, or history, and it definitely can't adjust when things change.

That's where I (Sunny, in-house nutritionist) come in.

Here's how to start:

I'm at Full Circle Veterinary Hospital every Tuesday and Wednesday, offering free 15-minute nutrition consults.

Bring the symptom that's been nagging at you for months.

In fifteen minutes, I'll tell you honestly whether this looks like a food problem, and whether I'm the right person to help.

If it is, and I am, we'll book a full 1-hour discovery session to map the whole picture: history, symptoms, current diet, what's been tried, what's actually going on underneath.

And if you decide to move forward into a custom 1-month nutrition program, part of what you paid for that session goes straight toward it.

Fifteen minutes to find out, that's all I ask.
