Unlike her puppies Naomi had a life before rescue, and it was not ideal.
Born on a property as part of another unplanned litter Naomi would stay there for just about a year. She would never step foot inside a home, have the opportunity to bond with humans, or live any life that even slightly resembles that of a pet. Instead she would unknowingly be thrown into the vicious cycle of puppies having puppies without any end in sight.
By chance Naomi found her way out of that life. After the humans decided they did not want yet another litter they turned a very pregnant Naomi over to the shelter. The transition from shelter life to foster life was a confusing and difficult journey, but once she weaned her puppies Naomi’s new challenge was adapting to life as a pet.
This girl has come a long way, and that is not hyperbole. When she came into rescue no one could even touch her, she would bite at her leash, panic and try to find the nearest place to hide. Life outside the one room in her foster home was scary and were all that roamed. Today Naomi absolutely loves running down the back steps into the yard to greet the kiddos or play chase with her canine friends. At just about a year old her true puppy personality comes out. Stranger danger is still a very big obstacle with Naomi. She is not a pup that will come up to you with tail wags and kisses and upon first meet. Instead you may get a low growl, tail tuck and a pup that pancakes to the ground. New humans coming into her life must realize that this will be another huge adjustment for this girl and going slowly with her is what will lead to success. Naomi is happiest and most relaxed around other pups. It has helped her foster humans build a bond and trust with her overtime. Naomi is not suitable for a first time pup owner, but rather a rescue savvy family that can respect the time it takes to adjust and decompress. Her humans before this bred fear and an inability to trust, now she is looking for humans that can give her stability and confidence to overcome her past.
