The Cat Connection We rescue stray and abandoned cats! See more about us below. In our adoption program we work to locate new homes for stray and abandoned cats and kittens.

The Cat Connection is an almost all volunteer (one employee) 501(c)(3) nonprofit no-kill organization whose primary mission is to rescue abandoned, abused, unwanted, stray, neglected, and injured cats, and to facilitate their adoption into responsible permanent homes. The second part of our mission is to control the feral cat population through our Trap-Neuter-Return-Maintain (TNRM) program and th

rough the trapping and socialization of feral kittens. The Cat Connection works to end the growth of the feral population through TNRM, or Trap-Neuter-Return-Maintain, programs in many local communities including Waltham, Newton, Belmont, Brighton, Allston and Watertown, Massachusetts. We provide food, medical attention, and – when space allows – temporary shelter in one of our foster homes, while we work to find permanent placement with responsible, loving families. Our foster parents provide a safe and loving environment for these homeless animals. And because our cats are fostered in private homes we can offer insight into their personalities - whether they will be good with children, dogs, other cats, etc. The Cat Connection is not a shelter, but there are occasions when we are asked to take cats from their owners for a variety of reasons. We can offer advice, but limited resources prevent us from accepting all of these cats into our care. We may at times be able to assist in seeking new homes if the present owners are able to assist us with housing the cat in need of a new home until we find one.

Early Bird Alert 🎉 Save Big on Tickets to Whiskers & Whiskey: An Oasis of Hope!

The Cat Connection invites you to our annual fundraiser gala, Whiskers & Whiskey. This year's theme is "An Oasis of Hope," with a rich ambience and lots of fun activities. There will be live music, specially curated bazaar, henna artist, and psychic. And, of course, our buffet and whiskey tasting!

This Month’s Pawsitive Impact Award Goes to Joan!

As Chair of our Events Committee, Joan is the creative powerhouse behind the fundraising events that keep our shelter running—including our beloved Garden Party, Whiskers & Whiskey, and the annual Calendar Raffle. Beyond organizing these fantastic events, Joan loves working with Canva to create our event flyers, bringing so much color, flair, and creativity to everything we share with our community!

While her event planning and design skills are top-tier, Joan also possesses a truly rare superpower: keeping our meetings on schedule!

Because we all love to talk cat rescue, Joan gently keeps us in line and on time without ever making anyone feel cut off (a true art form!).

Joan is an integral part of the behind-the-scenes team that keeps The Cat Connection thriving, growing, and saving lives. Joan, thank you for your incredible dedication, your patience, and your unwavering support for our rescue kitties!

These brothers were named after two of our real-life Cat Connection board members. True to their namesakes, they are always hard at work managing playtime, overseeing treat distribution, and conducting mandatory cuddle sessions.

Every month, we feature a Shelter Star of the Month—a celebration of our exemplary volunteers’ commitment, dedication, and attentiveness to the cats in our care. Today, we are celebrating Danika!

Danika goes above and beyond for our cats, volunteering at multiple caretaking shifts each week to make sure they receive the love, attention, and care they deserve. As a Facility Manager, she helps keep the shelter running smoothly and creates a safe, welcoming environment for both the animals and other volunteers.

Her compassion doesn’t stop at the work she does at the shelter. Danika recently rescued a stray cat she found in her neighborhood, helping the cat to get the vet care it needed and find a loving home!

We are so grateful for Danika’s dedication, hard work, and huge heart. Our team (and our cats!) are so lucky to have her. Thank you, Danika, for everything you do. 💕
