WH Pletch sanctuary receives about three calls or messages every day from people asking me to take in their dogs. It breaks my heart, but WH Pletch Senior Dog Sanctuary cannot accept any more dogs at this time. We do not yet have a sanctuary building, and the dogs I have welcomed are living in my home.

I can, however, help share their stories.

The dogs pictured here desperately need loving homes. Most belong to older individuals facing health issues who may not be able to return home. These are heartbreaking situations for both the people and the dogs they love.

If you can offer a home or help, please contact the individuals listed with each dog directly. If you cannot take one in, please share this post. You may know the person who can give them the home they need.

Thank you for helping me help them. šŸ¤

Out comes everyone—it’s time for our walk!

Zoey is getting used to so many new things at WH Pletch Senior Dog Sanctuary: home-cooked meals, daily walks, and being part of a pack. She’s learning our routine and fitting in so well.

Without my boy Cache leading the way and keeping everyone together, we’re back to leashes for our walks. I miss him and the place he held in our little family. ā¤ļø

Watching Zoey come through that door with everyone makes my heart happy. Little by little, she’s finding her place and learning she belongs.

Our newest member of WH Pletch Sanctuary has never walked on a leash, so joining our pack for a walk was a whole new experience. By the end of our mile, she was beginning to catch on—and those little legs were ready for a rest.

Zoey has plenty to learn, but we’ll take it one step at a time, with patience and love.

These walks feel different without my boy Cache leading the way. He kept everyone together and in check. Without him, I’ve gone back to leashing everyone to keep our group together.

I miss my boy. Now we’re finding our way again, while helping little Zoey find her place beside us.

Meet the newest addition to our pack at WH Pletch Senior Dog Sanctuary!

Zoey came to us from a family facing the heartbreaking challenges of a father’s dementia and more dogs than they could manage. We’re grateful we could welcome her into our sanctuary and give her a place to belong.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t take them all. We’ll be sharing the other dogs soon to help them find loving homes. Please keep an eye out—your next companion may be among them.

We could also use a little help getting Zoey settled:
🐾 A baby gate with a walk-through door
🐾 Wild Buffalo wet dog food
red Diamond Dry food
Leashes that are 6 feet
If you can donate either item, please message us. Sharing this post helps, too.

Welcome to the pack, sweet Zoey. You are loved. šŸ’™

This evening, the dogs and I went on our first pack walk without Cache.

He was always out front, leading the way and keeping everyone together. I was so used to seeing him there. Tonight, I kept looking for him without even thinking—and then remembering why he wasn’t coming.

The dogs had fun, but there was a little tension, a little disconnect. It felt like they knew their buddy was missing, too.

I missed watching him do what came so naturally to him. I missed the comfort of having him there with us.

Oh, Cache… I wish we had one more walk. One more evening with you out front and all of us following along.

I’ll never forget you, my sweet boy. You’ll always be part of this pack, and I’ll carry you in my heart on every walk.

I found Cache today. My heart is shattered.

Since Thursday, I have walked miles calling his name, looking into every place I could think of, praying I would find him and he would come running to me. Today I found him in a culvert. It appears he may have chased a rabbit across the road and been hit by a car. We brought him home and buried him here on the farm.

I prayed for closure, but I never imagined how much it would hurt to find him this way. Still, I’m thankful I got to bring my boy home.

Cache was beside me when both of my parents died. He couldn’t take away that grief, but he stayed with me through it. He knew when I needed him close. For ten years, he followed me, watched over me, and loved me with his whole heart. I already miss his sweet eyes and that wonderful personality. I keep expecting to see him in all the places he loved to be.

To everyone who searched, shared his picture, offered a reward, or prayed for us: thank you. Please stop looking for him now. Knowing so many people cared about Cache has helped carry me through these days.

We are not promised tomorrow. When I saw Cache that morning, I didn’t know it was the last time. I would give anything for one more ordinary day with him. Please hold the ones you love a little closer. Tell them what they mean to you. Make each day spectacular, even in the smallest ways, because those are the days we ache to have back.

Sometimes God sends us angels to walk beside us for a while, and then the page turns before we’re ready. Cache, I wasn’t ready. Thank you for finding me, for comforting me, and for loving me. I will carry you with me always.

Love lives on.

There is still no sign of Cache.

For three days, I have gotten up early and searched for him. I have walked miles, looking through every bush, pond, culvert, haystack and barn. A drone has flown over the area searching, but still, we have found nothing.

I am completely devastated. Cache has been my faithful buddy for ten years. Wherever I went, he had to go too. He was always right beside me, and I don’t want our story to end this way.

As painful as it is, I have to face the possibility that he may not be coming home—and that I may never know what happened to him. But I will continue to look, and I ask everyone to please continue watching for him.

I am trusting in the Lord to bring Cache home or give me the closure and strength I need. Please keep Cache in your prayers. I love him dearly, and I miss my boy more than words can say.
