Today is a somber reminder of the inherent risks our local firefighters face each and everyday. We will never forget the Charleston 9 who tragically lost their lives in the line of duty. Our thoughts and prayers are with Charleston Fire Department and the families of the Charleston 9.

🎉🎉We offer congratulations to Captain KC Campbell on being awarded the South Carolina Certified Emergency Manager (SC CEM). The SC CEM certification requires extensive documentation of the applicant's qualifications, experience and training. In addition to references & experience in full-scale exercises or real world events, the SC CEM requires more than 100 contact hours of training (within the last 10 years) directly applicable to the four phases of emergency management - mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. Applications are peer-reviewed and certifications are issued by the South Carolina Emergency Management Association. Hot and humid conditions across SE GA and the SC Lowcountry will become quite unstable later this afternoon.
By 4 PM, scattered to numerous thunderstorms should develop within an area of weak low pressure across the I-95 corridor and along a developing sea breeze near the coast. Outflow from the inland thunderstorms should collide with the sea breeze, serving as a focus for strong to severe thunderstorms.
We may issue a few Special Weather Statements or Severe Thunderstorm Warnings for thunderstorm wind gusts, especially between 4 PM and 7 PM.
These thunderstorms should track to the east at 20 to 30 mph, helping to limit the potential for prolonged excessive rainfall. However, some areas could see rainfall amounts around 2 inches.
