People are concerned about Black cats / October / Halloween, so I am sharing the following:
"Black cats are not sacrificed in October; the idea is a persistent urban legend and Halloween myth. According to animal welfare organizations like The Humane Society of the United States and the ASPCA, there are no confirmed statistics, court cases, or studies showing that ritualistic sacrifice or organized satanic cult crime against black cats exists.
• The Origin of the Myth: The fears grew out of 1980s moral panics and old folklore connecting black cats to witchcraft, familiars, and bad luck.
• Real Shelter Concerns: While ritual sacrifice is a myth, some shelters temporarily suspend or restrict black cat adoptions in October not because of cults, but to prevent people from adopting cats as disposable Halloween props, costume accessories, or impulsive holiday novelties.
• Safety Tips: Animal rescues still advise keeping cats—especially black cats—indoors around Halloween to protect them from general mischief, pranks, or car traffic, which poses a far greater risk than ritual harm."

Toby managed to slip away from his home, was on the Road, & was heading towards Rt #1. He was spotted & picked up by a concerned individual. For his safety, he was brought to SK Animal Shelter & the Animal Care Technician scanned him 3 times for a microchip. The scanner read, "no chip found". He was scanned multiple times because metal interfers with scanner readings & because the shelter has metal, we scan several times. Toby stayed overnight. The next morning, the voicemail was checked, but there were not any messages about Toby. Later in the day, Toby's owner arrived to see if Toby was at the shelter & he was reunited with his family. The owner thought that they had called the SK Animal Shelter & left a message, but we think that they left the message at the other shelter. Toby is safe & back with his family!

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION: Wesley is an all black NEUTERED male who is tested, vaccinated, litter box trained, and eating a sensitive diet with probiotics. He gives super head butts, loves smooches, cuddles, and being held, but HATES being restrained, cramed into a cat carrier, vet visits, or other cats. However, he is the BEST lap cat! Clifford WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION after October 15th. We think that he is having a reaction to his NEUTER surgery pain medications. He is not acting like himself. Clifford is an extremely handsome, tri colored American Bully! He is housebroken. He loves his chewtoy and will be content for hours. He is about 2 1/2 years old, NEUTERED, tested, and vaccinated. AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION: Kitty needs to be an only pet. She was harrassed by a cat in one home and in her 2nd home, they adopted a dog. She is not comfortable with so much commotion.
