Seven-year-old brother and sister Roz and Boe were rescued recently when their previous owner could no longer care for them. They had spent the entirety of their lives living outside in Oklahoma, in separate kennels. Being siblings, they have a lot in common. Most importantly, they are both looking for their forever home. While these two can be adopted separately, SWESR’s preference is for them to be adopted together. They love each other, and it would be great for Roz and Boe to transition to their forever home together. These siblings would make an instant family for a lucky adopter who would receive twice the love!
Brother and sister are both calm and non-destructive inside, saving their typical Setter energy for the outdoors. They will happily self-exercise for 4-6 hours a day, patrolling the yard, looking for crickets or examining frogs, then rest on the porch. Neither dog is a jumper, demonstrating low escape drives, but, as always with a Setter, care should be taken around open doors, and they should be leashed if not inside a fenced yard. Daily exercise is a must!
They both tolerate being crated up to 4 hours while their foster parents run errands. They sleep through the night in their crates as well. Each dog is still new to training, but they know their names and will come when called (a clap of the hands helps focus attention to the command, too).
For all their similarities, there are, of course, some differences between the two dogs. Roz likes physical attention if she initiates it and it’s on her own terms. She has yet to invite herself onto the sofa, even though she is allowed to. Boe is an absolute lover and has the potential to become a Velcro dog. He will crawl onto the couch and onto your lap if allowed, asking for full body pets. Boe adores human attention and has engaged well with toddlers as young as 2 and children as old as 16. He’ll be right underfoot during a party. Roz did well with these same children, but she then excused herself and went into her crate as there was too much noise and activity at this particular party. Both these dogs are soft, sensitive, and eager to please, but these traits can be reflected differently with each dog.
Each dog is learning to be an indoor pet after 7 years outside. Roz is now fully house-trained. Boe wears a belly band to curb indoor marking behavior as he continues to adapt to an indoor routine, and good boy that he is, he hasn’t had any wet bands in the last two weeks! The dogs went camping recently, a new experience for both of them, and Boe didn’t attempt to mark the camper at all, and he doesn’t need to wear the band at night, so he is well on his way with house training!
Roz and Boe would each be a good first English Setter if an adopter was new to the breed. They definitely appreciate living the good life as indoor pets! As always with these FFtF stories, please share this on your social media, so we can cast as wide a net as possible to find these two deserving dogs their forever home. Let’s work our SWESR family magic and spread the word about these two good dogs, who are ready to meet their new family!
