Today was guardian family visit day for Luna and her babies. When our guardian families come to visit, it is so rewarding to see the human and canine bond. Mama Luna was so excited to see her family, and she was eager to show her babies off. Everything she loved was in the same room. We are so grateful and absolutely love our guardian families and the care that they give to our dogs. Thank you for being another "Home of the Lucky Dood"!!!!

We groom all of our breeding dogs that live in guardian homes. We do this for several reasons- as a service for our guardian families, for that “Lucky Dood” look, and, we get to see each and every one of our dogs every other month! This is Lucky Country Perfect Storm, “Jarvis”. He got his first big boy haircut! Jarvis is coming up on his 6 month birthday, so it will be a while before he will be a daddy, but we are thrilled with how he is growing, but also with how level headed he is for such a young boy. Keep it up, Jarvy!!!

Goodness, what cuteness! Luna and Beau's babies are three weeks old already!

What a difference a week makes! The top photo was a week ago, when Luna whelped 9 beautiful pups. The bottom photo was the same litter one week later! Think they have grown much? Even between birth and one week we have a curriculum that we follow to make sure that everyone, including mama, is healthy, growing and happy. While we love focusing on the babies, we also need to make sure mama is getting the best care possible. Luna is a fantastic mother, and perfect houseguest. During her time here raising her brood, there are no shortcuts in her care. The best nutrition, grooming to keep her clean and comfortable, privacy when she wants, and when she feels like she needs a little time away, she gets that too. Happy mamas raise happy babies. Which makes the humans happy too!

We are excited to introduce our newest member of the Lucky Dood Family! Luna had a textbook perfect delivery of 9 beautiful babies! We know we have some very excited families that will welcome these babies home in November!

Jasper and Domino’s Dyanmic Duo at two weeks!

Week Two Curriculum:

Our whelping box still has a thick cushion for the pups. The mat that keeps the pups dry and provides traction for them- research shows that this is critical for joint development and the relationship to hip laxity/dysplasia later in life.

This week, we put larger toys in the whelping box for the pups to explore. Toward the end of this week, we will put new surfaces in the box for the pups to walk on.

We are winding up our ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation) exercises- day 3 -16.

We start to introduce pups to new scents. Coffee, citrus, pine, all new things for them to discover. This exercise is referred to as ESI (Early Scent Introduction)

This is the last week that the pups will require an additional heat source. At three weeks of age, the pups can regulate their own temp.

In addition to still getting handled and touched, we now will carry a pup around the house for a little enrichment while still keeping them safe.

We start car rides. In a protected carrier and for a very short time. Experiencing motion will hopefully avoid car sickness later on.

Pups got their first worming medication. They will be wormed at 2-4-6-8 weeks.

Nail trims every three days to keep sharp nails from scratching mama.
