Happy Vet Tech Week!

This week, we're celebrating the incredible veterinary nurses and assistants who keep our practice running every day!

From holding horses for procedures, assisting with emergencies, to caring for hospitalized patients, preparing medications, keeping the trucks stocked, and supporting (and keeping safe!) our veterinarians in the field, these ladies do SO much behind the scenes to keep our practice running smoothly.

To our amazing team:

Thank you for all of your hard work, dedication, compassion, and commitment to our patients and their owners!

You are an integral part of our practice and we couldn't do what we do without you all ❀️

In July, this foal presented to Dr. Coyle with severe Rhodococcus pneumonia, dangerously high fevers, and significant loss of lung function.

Rhodococcus equi causes severe, life-threatening pneumonia and lung (and intestinal) abscesses in foals between the ages of 1-6 months of age.

While many foals recover, severely affected cases (like this c**t) are often not so lucky.

He required two and a half weeks of intensive hospitalization and treatment. There were many moments when we weren't sure he would make it but he kept fighting.

After his discharge, his recovery continues for several weeks at home.

Now, 7 weeks later, he's back to being a happy, active, playful foal and we couldn't be happier

Thanks for trusting us with your horses' care, even through the hardest days πŸ’šπŸ’›

It has been a full house in our clinic lately with patients battling Rhodococcus pneumonia, sepsis, angular limb deformities, and colics.

These cases remind us why we do what we do - every horse deserves a fighting chance and a dedicated team behind them.

We also want to give a heartfelt shout out to Conley & Koontz Equine Hospital for helping us manage overflow and for taking such great care of our clients πŸ’•

Meet the faces behind the scenes!

When you see our veterinarians on the farm or speak to someone on the phone, there's a dedicated team working behind the scenes to make every appointment, emergency call, and visit possible.

Today, we would like to shine a spotlight on our incredible team - the people who often don't get the recognition they deserve.

I've been slow posting, but we are finishing out our externs for the year and just said good bye to our first Missippi State student!

Join us in congratulating Landon and wishing him good luck on his internship at Hagyard (even though he sent me photos that I had to struggle to convert to be useable πŸ˜…)

We greatly enjoyed having him here with us and look forward to hearing all about his adventures in Kentucky!

Landon Snapp is a recent graduate of Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine, go Dawgs! Despite spending the majority of his vet school years in the sunny south, he still calls Bellefontaine, Ohio home.

Landon has a particular interest in Equine Reproduction, Sports Medicine, and Neonatal Medicine. He enjoys riding reining horses and is a big fan of the sport of harness racing! He will be heading to Lexington, Ky at the end of the month for an Equine Ambulatory internship.

*Edited to add - All of the horses hospitalized at the clinic are safe! The majority of the delays are due to truck damage and power outages*

Our practice was heavily impacted by the recent storms. While our team is working hard to continue providing care, we are currently dealing with power outages and damage that have affected some of our trucks and normal operations.

We will be open for emergencies, but may require some emergencies to haul in to our clinic for care as we get trucks sorted.

Routine procedures, wellness visits, and lameness exams may be rescheduled as we work through these unexpected challenges.

Our office staff will be reaching out to reschedule these appointments as soon as possible.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate the aftermath of the storm.

(Unrelated wound repair!)

We love it when our previous pre-veterinary students come back to us for clinical externships! It's so wonderful to see their dreams come to fruition.
