Is It Too Hot To Walk Your Dog?
When temperatures rise, your dog's paws can pay the price.
Did you know asphalt and sidewalks can become much hotter than the air temperature? On a warm summer day, pavement can get hot enough to cause painful burns in just seconds.
Try the 7-second test:
If you can't comfortably hold the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds, it's too hot for your dog's paws.
Here are a few ways to keep your dog safe during hot weather:
🐕 Walk early in the morning or later in the evening
🌱 Choose grassy or shaded routes whenever possible
🥾 Use protective booties if needed
👀 Check your dog's paws daily for redness, cracks, or irritation
🧩 Swap outdoor walks for indoor enrichment on especially hot days
💦 Cool off with some water fun in a sprinkler, creek, or lake
A little extra care can help your dog stay comfortable, active, and safe all summer long.
