⚠️CAT OWNERS: Potentially fatal tick-borne disease on the rise in Kentucky⚠️
We are seeing increased concern for Cytauxzoonosis (Bobcat fever) in cats! It is a serious and often fatal tick-borne disease spread primarily by the Lone Star tick. Outdoor cats are at the highest risk, especially in wooded or grassy areas.
Symptoms can appear suddenly and may include lethargy, loss of appetite, fever, difficulty breathing, pale or yellow gums, or weakness. This disease progresses very quickly, so early veterinary care is critical!
Prevention is the best protection:
✔️ Keep cats on year-round effective flea/tick prevention
✔️ Limit outdoor exposure when possible
✔️ Check pets regularly for ticks
If your cat seems “off” or develops any of these signs, please contact us immediately!
