The longest evenings of the year are happening right now. Between sunset and midnight, the yard changes cast every thirty minutes.

The robin sings the last song and goes quiet. The chimney swifts finish their final circuits overhead. Then the nighthawk appears — angular silhouette, peent call, scooping moths out of the twilight.

🌿 At dusk, fireflies start flashing low in the grass. The toad begins calling and won't stop for hours. June bugs crash into the porch light after three years underground.

By full dark the barred owl is calling from the tree line. The raccoon family walks the fence in single file. The orb weaver is rebuilding her web from memory — thirty minutes, same architecture every night.

By midnight, the cricket chorus is at full volume, the coyote is calling from the far tree line, and the fox is checking the brush pile.

The show at 7:30 is completely different from the show at 10. The yard doesn't have one evening. It has six 🐾
