Stanley: “I came here because my tummy hurts, NOT because I wanted to participate.”

This handsome guy was here for some GI upset and had some pretty strong feelings about his visit. By using Fear Free methods, patience, and a little creativity, we were able to work with Stanley to get the diagnostics and treatment he needed without asking him to be any braver than necessary. 🧡

Happy National Vet Tech Week!

Being a vet tech means being a comforter, cheerleader, detective, nurse, and advocate all rolled into one. We promise, we didn’t color their eye green for fun!

This bright green glow comes from fluorescein stain, a simple diagnostic tool we use to look for scratches and corneal ulcers on the surface of your pet’s eye. Damaged areas hold onto the stain and become much easier for our veterinary team to see.

Eye problems can be painful, and things can become more complicated if an ulcer develops an infection. So if your pet is squinting, tearing, rubbing at their eye, or you notice redness or cloudiness, don’t ignore it.

When in doubt, get those peepers checked out!

There’s something pretty special about spending the day with the future of veterinary medicine. 🧡

We had such a great day at the 2026 Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine Career Expo, talking with students about what a career at AcutePet Urgent Care can look like — from externships to life as a DVM and everything that makes our teams special.

Dr. John Anastasio represented our medical leadership and shared more about externship and DVM opportunities. Annie Gerding, DVM — and proud OSU alum — gave students a firsthand look at life as an AcutePet veterinarian, while Elissa Mohler, our Grove City Practice Manager, spoke to the support, culture and people behind our hospitals.

And THAT is our favorite part of days like this: students getting to hear directly from the people who are living our mission every day.

Happy International Coffee Day!

That morning cup of coffee may be a necessity for you, but for pets, caffeine can be dangerous. Caffeine is found in coffee, tea, energy drinks, soda, certain supplements, and even chocolate. Even small amounts can cause serious health concerns in dogs and cats.

Signs of caffeine toxicity may include:
• Restlessness or hyperactivity
• Panting
• Elevated heart rate
• Tremors or muscle twitching
• Vomiting
• Seizures in severe cases

If you suspect your pet has ingested a caffeinated product, contact a veterinarian right away. Early treatment can make a significant difference.

✅ Prevention tip: Keep coffee grounds, tea bags, energy drinks, caffeine pills, and other caffeinated products stored securely out of reach of curious paws.

Happy Labor Day from the hardest working (and best flower-smelling) team at AcutePet 🧡

Fun fact: Boxers are officially classified as a working breed. Our team's boxers took that job title very seriously this weekend. Shelby, our HR Director, has two very dedicated employees: Selah clocked in with a measuring tape (very important renovation project, we're told), while Sunny supervised some tractor work. Our Finance Assistant Veronica's family got in on it too. Their boxer Bentley took the day to stop and smell the flowers.

Whatever "working" looks like for you today, we hope it involves good company and maybe a snack. Our teams are here until 4 if you need us, but we hope you don't 🧡
