Virus Epidemic 🦠

We are experiencing several cases of Feline Panleukopenia (AKA Feline Distemper/Feline Parvo). Unvaccinated kittens 3-5 months old are the most susceptible. Cases are exclusively from unvaccinated cats or mother cats that are not vaccinated. Vaccinated, healthy cats are not at risk. Symptoms include high fever, lethargy, weakness, vomiting and diarrhea, although some kittens present no symptoms before sudden death. If you suspect your kitten may have Panleukopenia please seek immediate medical attention. For prevention, have your kitten vaccinated as soon as 6 weeks of age, or as soon as possible with the feline distemper vaccine.

We recently had a little bat visitor brought in to see Dr. Dan! 🩺🦇

If you find a bat in or around your home, please do not handle it yourself. Contact Morgan County Animal Control and ask for Scott for information on the proper and safe way to remove it.

Once a bat has been safely captured, Morgan County Animal Control can bring it to our clinic for rabies testing.

He is current on vaccinations and has been dewormed. To help ensure he goes to a safe and caring home, two adoption references will be required.

The adoption fee will be made as a donation to PAWS (Paws Jackson).

CASE OF THE WEEK:

Sassy the chicken came in to the vet office for potentially being egg bound (not acting herself). After Dr. Bergerud performed his physical exam he suggested a x-ray. The x-ray showed that Sassy ate a screw and staples. After talking to the owners they decided to do surgery to attempt and remove the foreign objects. The surgery was successful and Sassy recovered well after anesthesia. Sassy went home and went right back to her normal routine. She returned two weeks after the surgery to remove her staples and she is doing terrific! 🐓🥚
