A Week in the Life of Caribbean Paws Adoption Network 🐾💛
People often see the available dogs posts and happy endings in our Alumni group, but behind every dog that makes it safely from Puerto Rico to a loving home is an enormous amount of volunteer work happening behind the scenes.
This week alone we:
✈️ Coordinated 4 groups of flight volunteers into 4 different airports carrying 13 puppies
🚗 Arranged transport pickups, overnight fosters, supply deliveries, and long-distance drives to connect dogs with adopters
🐶 Managed late-night airport arrivals, including Monday night’s pickup in Philly that ended with volunteers and adopter meeting at 3 AM in Virginia Beach to safely hand off puppies
🏠 Fostered multiple puppies overnight while waiting for adopters and fosters to pick up
📞 Called and followed up on adoption applications and foster inquiries
🐾 Coordinated 2 spay/neuter clinic days this week for 8 dogs and cats, including transporting animals to and from appointments in Newport News
🦴 Picked up and distributed food donations and foster supplies (Currently 8 dogs in 7 different foster homes - soon to be more)
💊 Ordered rescue supplies including dewormer, flea/tick prevention, heartworm meds, test kits, collars, leashes, kennels, and puppy essentials
❤️ Helped a local family caring for rescued puppies believed to have Parvo by providing supplies, food, and test kits (not CPAN dogs)
📣 Updated adoption profiles and created marketing materials to help our dogs find homes
📰 Connected with Great Neck Neighbors Magazine in hopes of increasing community awareness, viewership, volunteers, and support for our mission
🚐 Began coordinating our next large transport involving cargo reservations, van rentals, drivers, kennels, veterinary paperwork, and foster placement for every single dog arriving June 5th
🐕 Took back in a returned 10-month-old puppy and immediately began working on a new plan for his future
And all of this is done by volunteers balancing full-time jobs, families, kids’ activities, and our own pets because we believe these dogs deserve a chance at a better life.
Rescue takes a network. Rescuers. Flight volunteers. Fosters. Drivers. Adopters. Donors. Veterinarians. Supporters. Every person matters.
Right now, our biggest need is fosters. Without foster homes, dogs cannot leave Puerto Rico and make the journey to safety.
If you’ve ever considered fostering, volunteering, donating, or adopting, now is the time. You can truly change a life.
And if you want to celebrate some of the lives already changed, join us Sunday from 3–5 PM at Salty Paws on Pleasure House Road for our first Alumni/Adoption Event! 🐾
So far CPAN has adopted out 230 dogs and cats since our beginning in September 2025.
