Have you taken a shelter dog on a field trip yet?!

This volunteer has started taking shelter dogs out once a week and is having such a great time sharing her experience. โ™ฅ๏ธ

It is super beneficial for a shelter dog to get out of the kennel environment, even for a few hours . It provides immense stress relief and allows for us to learn more about them.

Check out Abby! She is a longtime resident with us and is so special!

If youโ€™ve ever wondered why we get excited about dog playgroups, this is whyโ€ฆ

๐†๐ฎ๐ฌ (white and tan) and ๐’๐ก๐ž๐ฏ๐š (black and white) ๐ก๐š๐ฏ๐ž ๐›๐ž๐œ๐จ๐ฆ๐ž ๐Ÿ๐š๐ฌ๐ญ ๐Ÿ๐ซ๐ข๐ž๐ง๐๐ฌ, and watching them together has been one of those little shelter victories that makes everyone smile.

๐’๐ก๐ž๐ฏ๐š is one of our go-to dogs when weโ€™re evaluating how other dogs interact. Sheโ€™s social, solid, and seems to get along with just about everybody.

๐†๐ฎ๐ฌ is a different story. When he first started attending playgroups, he wasnโ€™t really interested in the other dogs and preferred to do his own thing. Recently, we decided to give it another try with a smaller group, and something clicked. Now heโ€™s running, playing, and having a blast.

Hannah was officially promoted during the Virginia Beach Police Departmentโ€™s promotion ceremony, alongside Captain Bryan Strouse and Lieutenant Michael Marsolais.

Throughout her career, Hannah has consistently demonstrated professionalism, compassion, leadership, and a genuine passion for animal welfare. Whether assisting members of our community, supporting her fellow officers, or advocating for the animals in our care, she has always gone above and beyond.

We are seeking assistance in identifying the owner of this dog or anyone who may recognize her.

She was found near S Plaza and Holland Rd in extremely poor physical condition and blind. Despite everything, she has been incredibly sweet and gentle with staff. We have named her โ€œBlossomโ€ for now.

We understand that seeing an animal in this condition may be upsetting. At this time, our focus is on identifying her owner, gathering information, and ensuring she receives the care and support she needs.

Our Animal Enforcement Officers routinely respond to situations involving animals in crisis, neglect concerns, medical emergencies, and owner hardships throughout the community.
