Meet Smokey 🐾

This sweet 7-year-old senior poodle recently came to us and would love nothing more than to recover in a home environment surrounded by love and comfort. ❤️

Yesterday, Smokey visited the eye specialist at Animal Eye Care, where he was diagnosed with blepharitis—inflammation of the eyelids, likely secondary to allergies.

He will also be seeing one of our regular veterinarians to address a possible ear infection and continue managing his medical care. Right now, Smokey is on four different eye medications as well as a steroid, and we are hopeful that with the right treatment plan, his eyes will become more comfortable and manageable over time. He is scheduled to return to the eye specialist again in three weeks.

Smokey was recently surrendered to us after his previous owner reportedly became tired of grooming him and giving him his eye medication. Unfortunately, none of this is something Smokey can help—he simply needs care.

What he gives in return, though, is endless sweetness. As you can see from these photos, Smokey is incredibly affectionate, happy, and loving despite everything he’s been through. We’re grateful to be able to get him the care he deserves—now we just need to find him the right person willing to continue that care and love him the way he always should have been loved. 🐶✨

We are still looking for a foster-to-adopt home for Smokey. If you’re interested in helping this sweet boy, please reach out to us at [email protected].

Update on Tomoe 💜

We’re happy to report that Tomoe’s FHO surgery was successful, and he’s doing great!

While he was under anesthesia, dental x-rays were also completed in preparation for his next surgery, which is scheduled for June 29th.

Tomoe will likely need a couple of teeth extracted, and part of his jaw will need to be removed due to the severity of his previous injuries. After that, this should finally be the last major step in his recovery journey so he can live comfortably and pain-free.

Thank you so much to everyone who donated toward his care and helped make this surgery possible. We truly could not do this without you. 💜

We’ll link the previous post below for anyone who would still like to help with Tomoe’s ongoing medical expenses. 🐾

You may remember Tomoe, the tiny Chihuahua who came to us back in April after being hit by a car. He suffered a dislocated hip and a broken jaw, and since then he’s been healing in a foster home that we’re so excited to say is officially going to become his forever home. ❤️

For the past couple of months, Tomoe’s jaw has been stabilized medically while we monitored his hip. Unfortunately, the hip could not be put back into place, which means that every time he walks, the head of his femur rubs painfully against the bone.

Today, Tomoe is undergoing FHO surgery, a procedure that removes the head of the femur to relieve that pain and help give him a much more comfortable, happy life.

This surgery is expensive, with an estimated cost of around $2,700, and we are asking for help covering the cost of his care so we can continue saying yes to dogs like Tomoe.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this little guy since day one. Watching him go from injured and scared to loved, safe, and soon pain-free means everything to us. 🐾

Wonderful news for Baby Lilia. 💜

You may remember Lilia, the tiny puppy who came to us with multiple skull fractures after suffering unimaginable abuse at just a few weeks old.

Not only have her fractures fully healed, but Lilia has officially been adopted into a wonderful home. 🥹

This photo was taken with Chris, one of our transporters, who helped bring her to safety in the very beginning of her journey. Seeing her now, safe, loved, and finally getting the life she always deserved, is something none of us will ever take for granted.

Thank you to everyone who donated, shared her story, rooted for her, and helped make this outcome possible. Stories like Lilia’s are only possible because people cared enough to step in when she needed it most. ❤️

We’re heartbroken. 💔

💔 Last night, we had to say goodbye to Boone. 😢

Over the past couple of weeks, Boone had been hospitalized multiple times as we tried to understand the neurological symptoms he was experiencing. Despite medications, supportive care, and everyone doing everything they could for him, Boone deteriorated again yesterday.

At that point, we were out of treatment options due to the severity of his condition, and the incredibly difficult decision was made to let him go peacefully.

One of the hardest parts of rescue is that sometimes love, medicine, and determination still aren’t enough to save them.

But Boone did not leave this world alone.

He was loved deeply by every person who fought for him, donated toward his care, shared his story, checked in on him, and hoped alongside us. In his short life, he knew comfort, warmth, safety, and people who cared enough to try.

His foster family was with him through it all, and he passed surrounded by love. Please keep them in your thoughts today. ❤️💔

Another update on Boone! 💜

Donations Needed For Baby Boone 🙏🥺

Boone has been hospitalized again.

After initially responding really well to treatment and returning to his normal puppy self, his neurological symptoms came back after his medication was tapered. Last night, he declined to the point where he needed emergency care again.

Right now, our priority is stabilizing him while the veterinary team works to better understand what’s causing this. What we do know is that something is triggering inflammation that’s affecting his neurological function, and it’s serious.

Boone is currently hospitalized and receiving treatment, and we are looking at a minimum of $2,000 for his care.

If you’re able to help, please consider making a donation. Cases like this escalate quickly, and the cost of giving them a chance adds up just as fast.

And for those who have already signed up as Hope for Lifers, thank you. Your monthly support is already helping us handle situations like Boone’s. If you’ve been thinking about joining, even a small monthly amount makes a real difference.
