Next up in our Vet Tech Week spotlight is Jess! 👩‍⚕️🐾

Her path to veterinary medicine started at the barn. As a young rider, she watched a horse get injured the day he was dropped off for boarding, saw the vet come out to help, and got to assist with his care. That moment set her on the path to becoming a vet tech.

Outside of work, Jess loves to travel (bonus points if her dogs can come along 🐶), and her happy place is the barn, surrounded by horses. 🐴

Happy Vet Tech Week! 👩‍⚕️ All week we’re spotlighting our amazing vet techs, and first up is Kat! 🐾

Kat got into veterinary medicine because she’s always loved animals, and over the years it became so much more than that. She loves being an advocate for patients who can’t speak for themselves and using her skills to make a scary or painful day a little easier. She’s also there for their families, celebrating the good days, supporting them through the hard ones, and making sure they feel heard.

Outside of work, you’ll find Kat outdoors with her Australian Shepherd, Lilly, usually after a 4:30 AM workout (yes, really 😅). She’s a huge Taylor Swift fan who loves reading, gardening, baking, and coffee.

Happy Boss’s Day to Liz! 💛🐾

Anyone lucky enough to work alongside you knows how much heart you put into everything you do. Running a veterinary practice means carrying the patients, the clients, the team, and a lot of work most people never see, and you do it all with compassion, patience, and kindness.

You lead by example, and your care for the animals we treat, the families we serve, and the team beside you doesn’t go unnoticed.

Thank you for everything you take on. We’re so lucky to have a boss who is as kind as she is dedicated. We appreciate you more than words can say!

Harry, an 8-year-old kitty, came to us with skin wounds and fleas. Fleas aren’t just a nuisance. The itching can lead to scratching and overgrooming, which can turn into painful sores. 😿

To treat him, we first ran bloodwork to make sure he was a good candidate for steroids to calm his inflammation. Then he got a steroid injection and started flea and tick control to tackle the root of the problem.

If your cat is scratching more than usual or has sores or scabs, don’t wait it out. Flea prevention matters for indoor cats too!

How to Handle Toxic Ingestion in Pets 🐾💀
Acting fast (and knowing where to call) makes all the difference.

1️⃣ Call a verified pet poison control hotline – when you call, you should be given a case number to share with your vet’s office. If you do NOT receive a case number, it’s likely an unreliable hotline!

📞ASPCA Animal Poison Control: (888) 426-4435

When you call have ready ➡️your pet’s weight, the substance ingested, the estimated amount, and any symptoms they’re showing. This helps the hotline give you accurate guidance faster.

2️⃣ Next, call your primary or urgent vet and let them know you’re coming – share the case number you were given so they can best prepare for your arrival.

Some top pet toxins to beware of are 👉 insecticides, rodenticides, antifreeze, fertilizer, batteries, essential oils, household cleaners and household medications.

‼️Don’t induce vomiting or give home remedies unless told to do so by the hotline or your vet. And if your pet is showing severe symptoms like trouble breathing, seizures, or collapse, go straight to your nearest emergency vet rather than waiting for a callback.
