It’s that dreaded time of the year… allergy season 🤧 And our 4 legged friends can also be sensitive to pollen and show symptoms of seasonal allergies. While there are medications your vet can prescribe for severe allergies, there are many natural ways you can support your pups immune system and relieve allergy symptoms at home. Always check with your vet to be sure these are a right fit and to get correct dosage- but here are a few of my favorite ways to keep allergies at bay:
Bovine Colostrum- colostrum not only supplies your pup with natural antibodies to pollen, but it also supports a healthy GI tracts, boosts the immune system, lowers inflammation and reduces histamine levels.
Quercetin- Quercetin can actually turn off histamine production by preventing the cells from releasing it in the first place.
Probiotics- just like in humans, the majority of your dogs immune system is in their gut. So by supporting a healthy gut, you support their ability to fight off infection, lower inflammation and absorb nutrients.
Omega 3’s- a good quality fish oil supplement can relieve itchy skin and red paws by calming inflammation
Mushrooms- medicinal mushrooms are great for everything from fighting cancer to lessening to joint pain, to lessening allergy symptoms. Reishi, cordyceps and turkey tail are among my favorite mushrooms for myself and my dogs to support a healthy immune system. You can find mushroom powders and easily sprinkle onto your dogs food- just make sure they have a high Beta-glucan content.
Give these a try for a healthy, less itchy pup this allergy season! And try for yourself as well! All the above are great for human allergies too 😃
