Fireworks, travel, and open doors can turn even the most loyal pup into a little escape artist. The good news is, a microchip can help bring them home faster.

A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and is placed just under your pet’s skin. If your pet ever gets lost, veterinary clinics and animal control can scan the chip and quickly connect them back to you through your updated contact information. 📲

A few important reminders:
👉 Microchips are NOT GPS trackers
👉 Your contact information must stay up to date
👉 Even indoor pets should be microchipped

✨ Pet of the Week ✨

Hiiiiii, I’m Happy… but my friends call me Haps! 🐶💙 I’m a 9-month-old Labrador, which basically means I’m a professional lover, part-time genius, and full-time snack enthusiast. (Heavy on the snack part.)

If you’re wondering about my hidden talent… it’s taking the looooongest p*e breaks you’ve ever seen. Like… we might need to schedule them as events. ⏳😌

My biggest “oops”? Probably that one time I jumped on the dining room table. In my defense… It looked like it needed me. 🍽️

I love hanging out with my humans and making new friends. Okay, I’ve gotta go… I think I hear a treat bag opening. WOOF!🐾

Happy Memorial Day! 🌊🐶 Are you planning to hit the beach with your dog this summer? Here’s what you need to know…

Virginia Beach has specific pet rules in place from Memorial Day through Labor Day to keep public areas safe and clean. Here’s a quick breakdown:

Oceanfront Beach (Rudee Loop to 42nd Street):
🔹 No dogs allowed during summer (Memorial Day through Labor Day)

North End, Sandbridge, and Chesapeake Bay Beaches:
🔹 Dogs are welcome before 10 a.m. and after 6 p.m.
🔹 Must be leashed or under the owner’s control at all times.

Boardwalk Access:
🔹 Leashed dogs are allowed from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Other important reminders:
🔹 Dogs must remain leashed (or under control) on the boardwalk, sidewalks, streets, and beach.
🔹 Owners must clean up after their pets.
🔹 Dogs must be licensed and current on vaccinations.
🔹 Dog parks are open from sunrise to sunset.
🔹 Off-leash play is generally allowed north of the Ocean Beach Bikeway, but not between the path and the Ocean Beach Pier.
🔹 Service animals are exempt from these restrictions.

✨Pet of the Week ✨

Hi friends! I’m Wilma, but my closest pals call me W***y Bean. 🐾💙 I’m a 7-month-old English Bulldog, and my life mission is very simple: love absolutely everyone I meet. If you’ve got hands for pets, we’re already best friends. 😌

I also have a pretty unique hidden talent. I’m a professional beach shell collector. 🐚 Walk me along the beach and I’ll happily gather up shells like a tiny bulldog treasure hunter.

But my most impressive (and slightly bossy) habit? I run a very strict no-shoes policy in my house. 👟🚫 If someone leaves shoes lying around, I immediately take action. I collect them, tidy things up, and place them neatly in my bucket. You’re welcome, humans. Just doing my part to keep the house organized.

Meet Courtney Buckingham, LVT. 💙

With 12 years in veterinary medicine, Courtney has done it all; she spent 8 years spent in emergency medicine before returning to general practice.

Courtney loves building connections with both pets and their people, and she was ready for a pace that allowed her to slow down, spend time with members, and actually follow their journey, not just see them once and wish them well.

And if there’s one thing to know about Courtney it’s this: She is a cat person. 🐱 Like, really a cat person. She has three of her own (Amy, Hope, and Nico 🐾), loves teaching people how to properly understand and handle cats, and is passionate about reminding everyone that cats are not small dogs. Different body language, different communication, different approach... Courtney is here for all of it.

She also has a soft spot for what she calls “crunchy” pets: those sweet senior animals with big personalities that are often overlooked. In her opinion, the older and sassier, the better.
