Treat time is also bonding time. 🐱🧑

Did you know that hand feeding your pet occasionally can actually strengthen your bond and build trust, especially with cats who are more reserved?

It also gives you a chance to notice changes in appetite, which can be an early indicator that something is off health wise. 🐾

Fall is officially in the air and your flock can feel it. πŸ“πŸ‚

Shorter days and cooler temps change what your chickens need from their feed, and October is the month a lot of backyard keepers start noticing the difference in egg production without knowing exactly why.

If you haven't thought about your flock's fall and winter feed program yet, now is a great time to start. πŸ™Œ

Autumn was made for dogs and they know it. πŸ‚πŸΎ

Crisp air, crunchy leaves, and a pup who is absolutely living their best life. Fall walks are genuinely one of the best things about having a dog. They make you get outside even when you'd rather stay in and for that we are eternally grateful. 🧑

What's your favorite thing about fall walks with your dog?

October pasture looks beautiful but there's something important happening underneath that pretty picture. πŸ‚πŸ΄

As fall sets in, cool-season grasses can actually spike in nonstructural carbohydrates, especially on cold nights followed by sunny days. For most horses this is not a problem. But for horses that are insulin-resistant, prone to laminitis, or easy keepers, October pasture can be one of the riskiest times of year.

The visual cues that usually signal danger in spring, lush green growth, rapid flush, don't apply the same way in fall. The grass can look sparse and dried out while still carrying elevated sugar levels.

If you manage a horse with metabolic concerns, October is worth paying close attention to. πŸ‘€

October on a horse farm is its own kind of thing.🐴

The leaves turn. The air gets that bite to it. The horses grow their coats out and start moving differently, slower in the mornings, more settled in the evenings.

There is something about this season that reminds you the farm has its own rhythm and you're just lucky enough to be part of it.

What does your favorite October farm morning look like? πŸ‚

Packing for a trip and your dog has already made their position very clear. πŸ˜‚πŸ§³

They are going and that is final. Fall travels hit different when you've got a fluffy co-pilot who absolutely refuses to be left behind.

Is your dog a suitcase saboteur or do they wait patiently by the door? 🐾

If you're running a mixed flock of chickens, ducks, or other poultry, fall is a good time to take a look at whether your current feed program is actually working for everyone in that yard. πŸ”πŸ¦†

Different birds have genuinely different nutritional needs and what works well for one species can create gaps for another. Ducks, for example, need more niacin than chickens and can suffer without it over time.

As daylight drops and temperatures shift, nutritional demands change too. It's worth a quick conversation before winter sets in and problems are harder to spot. πŸ™Œ

Did you know cats can actually sense the season changing before you do? πŸ‚

Shorter daylight hours trigger shifts in your cat's behavior, appetite, and sleep patterns. You might notice them eating a little more, sleeping longer, or seeking out warmer spots around the house as October sets in. It's completely normal and just their body responding to the change in light. 🐱

October has a way of making you appreciate the full picture. The animals are doing well. The land is still producing. And somewhere in that rhythm is the reason people choose this life and keep choosing it, year after year. πŸ‚πŸ‘

Here's to the shepherds and producers who take care of their animals and their land with the kind of quiet commitment that makes moments like this possible. πŸ™Œ
