From Jepp's Fur-daddy: Today would have been Jepp's 10th birthday... Instead of a hockey-puck of duck meat with candles, I cleared the leaves from his marker in the backyard, washed his stone with soap and water, and cried...
But I also did something else - for the first time, I took Hap with me. I sat him down, and introduced him to the place where his brother resides now in the physical sense. Being outdoors is a rare treat for Hap (his escape artist tendencies merit a close watch), and so he was overwhelmed. But once inside, Hap quickly settled, nudged my elbow, and crawled into my arms - looking to also lick away the tears from my face.
Like many others, I still miss Jepp so much. His smile, his eyes, his eyes, his voice, and his attitude.
"Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die."

My first birthday! My daddy got me some raw duck, although the candle is a little much... ;-)
