KESMARC is steadfast in it’s support of horses and their second careers particularly with the . This year in particular, we are sponsoring Grand Aspen as he takes on his new career. He has taken everything in stride and it’s been an honor to help his skills develop over the years from racing in the Pegasus World Cup Invitational to becoming a well rounded OTTB with tons of potential. So many horses just like him have the ability to have wonderful second careers post racing. Retired Racehorse Project

Our hearts and prayers go out to the Cadena family after the tragic loss of Dr. Cierra Cadena. Our veterinarians play such a vital role in our animals lives and do so much to make sure they are healthy. But this has become an epidemic in the veterinary profession. We encourage you to donate to this important cause to try to find answers so this doesn’t continue to happen. We have provided a link to the causes we support below.

🌊 What’s really working underwater?
More than you might think. 👀🐴
Swimming provides a unique form of exercise that challenges a horse’s cardiovascular system, core, muscles, balance, and coordination—all while taking weight off the limbs.
From the powerful movement of the hind end to the constant work of staying balanced, there’s a lot happening beneath the surface.
💦 It may look like just a swim, but it’s a workout from nose to tail.

Mondays are hard. This horse agrees! Horses get plenty of rest during their stay with us. In between their therapies they have plenty of time to rest in their 14x14 stalls. We often have people comment how relaxed horses are in our care (which we love!); we keep the barn as calm as we can because rehab and conditioning shouldn’t be stressful!

Before you load your horse on a trailer to Wellington this winter… ask yourself: does your horse really need to go? 🐴
For horses coming back from an injury, taking time off, or simply not showing this season, a long trailer ride and a change of environment may add unnecessary stress when what they really need is consistent, focused rehabilitation.
Staying in Kentucky means avoiding the miles, staying in a familiar environment, and continuing an individualized rehab and conditioning program without interruption.
It can also be significantly more cost-effective than taking a non-showing horse to Wellington.
You head south to compete.
We’ll keep your horse progressing at home. ❤️
Sometimes the best place for a horse in rehab is right here in Kentucky.

🐴 Rehab takes a team! 💪
Every successful recovery is the result of countless little things happening behind the scenes—treatments, exercise, monitoring, adjustments, early mornings, and a whole team working towards the same goal.
And while we take their rehab seriously, we believe there’s always room for a little fun along the way! 🥳
Hard work. Teamwork. Rehabilitation. Comebacks. And a whole lot of heart. ❤️

Is the barn feeling like a sauna this week? 🥵 While you’re sweating through turnout, your equine partner is feeling that heavy heat just as hard—making it the prime time to introduce them to the ultimate recovery hack: the cold spa.
Whether they’re coming off a hard workout in the stifling humidity or just need maintenance therapy, hydrotherapy is a game-changer. Here is why adding a cold spa session to their routine right now pays off:
* Targeted Leg Care: The combination of circulating ice-cold water constricts blood vessels to reduce inflammation, swelling, and micro-trauma in tendons and ligaments.
* Deep Relaxation & Recovery: Eases muscle stiffness from training in the heat, helping your horse bounce back faster and move freer.
* Instant Core Cool-Down: Rapidly lowers body temperature and brings relief when the ambient barn heat refuses to break.
Beat the dog days of summer and give your equine athlete the ultimate chill. 🐎❄️

The aquatred is the perfect way to add some additional loaded exercise without adding a rider quite yet, or even just to keep a certain level of conditioning while reducing impact on joints and soft tissue. The buoyancy of the water reduces the weight that the horse bears to about 30-60%. It’s a great way to add an in between step or use during training when coming back to work.
