Pet of the Week: Lani!
10 months old, spayed female, brown tabby and white markings, short hair

This girl is the best! If you're a cat lover, she's gonna knock your socks off. She's such a perfect teenage kitten: lotta sweet with just a hint of spice and a generous pour of chaos. Lani will run right up to say hi and get some pets when you walk in the room, but she doesn't hold still for long! She's constantly on a quest for adventure, whether that's stalking birds through the window, stalking cats from a high shelf, or stalking toys wherever they may be found. She's a chatty, pouncy, purry baby with big ears and no fear, and she's so ready to bring her mix of snuggles and goblin mode into your life.

Lani loooooves the company of other cats and is often found crammed into a single bed with at least one other friend. If you have a kitty who needs a friend, she's up for the job! If you want to adopt her AND a friend, she's up for that job too!

Psst! Hey. This week, right now? This is the time to get ready to get your pets through the 4th of July. Here's a little check list of things you can do NOW to keep your pets safe on the big day.

👩‍⚕️ Call your vet (today!) if your pet would benefit from medication for fireworks anxiety. They might need to be seen by a doctor, and at the very least will need to get a prescription filled, and all of that takes time. Don't wait until July 3rd!

🏠 Check their tags and microchip registration to make sure your phone number and address are up to date, just in case. For most microchip companies, it's as easy as logging in online to check or update your info. And hey, add an alternate contact while you're in there!

🚪 Plan a safe room for them. If you're hosting and will have folks coming and going, keep pets in a secure room away from exterior doors so they can't dart out or take advantage of a door left open by a guest. Make it as calm and comfy as possible, and plan to have music playing - it won't solve the problem but it can help mask the noise. According to a University of Glasgow study, reggae works great. Who knew?

☎️ Know who to call if things don't go according to plan. Look up the number for the local Animal Care and Control office in whatever county you and your pets will be in in case they get lost, and know who to call/where to go for emergency vet care if you need it.

Senior Sweetie Sunday! Meet Cyrus, an extremely handsome, extremely fluffy guy just looking for a quiet place to land 🩷

Cyrus is about 9 years old and a Great Pyrenees/husky mix - think closer to the size of a husky (65 lbs) but with maximum fluff and feet that seem too big for the rest of him. He needed medical care when he arrived, but he's all healed up, out of the cone, professionally groomed (big ups to Tiffany's Pet Spa!) and so ready to just chill out with someone he loves.

It takes Cyrus a little while to get used to people, and he's sensitive about touch until he's comfortable and trusts you. He doesn't growl or fuss; he doesn't seem fearful. He's just on alert and it comes off as aloof and avoidant. Cyrus doesn't have a mean bone in his body, and he is such a sweet, gentle soul, but because his first impression comes off as aloof, it's harder for him to get somebody to give him a chance.

So hey - give Cyrus a chance! What he really needs is calm, patience, and a good routine while his mind and body unwind. If you can do that for him, give us a call at 859-873-5491 and make an appointment to meet him.

Bugatti...buddy. Please. Why 😭

**PUPDATE 6/18: Jigsaw has been adopted on a trial basis!**

Pet of the Week: Jigsaw!
1 year old, neutered male, Great Dane, weighs 95 lbs (still growing!)

Hooo boy it's hard to take pics of a young active dog who is approximately 8 feet tall and all legs, but here's what we got!

Jigsaw is just about the handsomest Great Dane we ever did see! His coat is somewhere between merle and harlequin (merlequin?) with white, gray, black, and brown all making an appearance in those jigsaw-puzzle spots. He is also the proud owner of the most ridiculously charming flippy-floppy ears. 10/10, no notes.

Personality-wise, Jigsaw is a big ol' happy-go-lucky goober with a heart of gold! He's a total social butterfly and makes new friends in about half a second. Although he's definitely in his goofy teenage era, he already knows 'sit' and 'down' (when you have a treat at least) and he's super people-focused and ready to learn more. He's been doing pretty well with house training here, and seems curious about the other dogs. He loves to play and get the zoomies but he can be pretty mouthy, so teaching gentler play will be part of the deal.

This fella is just shy of 100 lbs and will keep growing until he's 2, so be ready for a biiiiig dog!
