It's officially Summer Gala season ☀ Get special Lucky Dog ticket pricing before it's gone!

Join us at Keeneland on July 25 for the biggest night of our year! The Summer Gala is an evening of upscale fun for a great cause, so if you like getting a little dressed up, having a delicious meal, and helping homeless pets, it's right up your alley.

In addition to signature cocktails at the full bar and as much of Keeneland's famous bread pudding as you can eat, guests can browse and bid on amazing silent auction items, enter to win an excellent bottle of bourbon in the Blind Bourbon Pull, and see if they can reel in several hundred dollars in restaurant gift cards in the Feeding Frenzy Raffle. Plus music and dancing, and of course the excellent company of animal lovers like you!

It's Senior Sweetie Sunday and shh nobody tell Rum...but he officially makes the cut now. Rum's one of our long-term residents, he's been with us since December of 2023, and he just turned 8 in April. He is SUCH a good boy! Rum's a bigger fella at about 80 lbs, but he's easy on a leash. He knows some commands and he does great with house training. And best of all, he's a DEVOTED snuggle bug! He's seriously an easy dog, if there is such a thing.

Rum is unbothered by the other dogs here, but does like to chase cats. If you already have a dog at home, bring them with you to your appointment so we can try out an introduction! If you don't have another dog at home, well, you better just come prepared to fall in love.

Whitaker is a sweet, quiet, chill 6 1/2 year old polydactyl fella with a few extra toes so he can hold your hand better. Little bit shy at first, but an irresistible purrer once he feels at home 😇 Gets along well with other cats.

You know the old saying "April showers bring May flowers," but did you know the lesser-known second half of it? It's "...and May showers bring lush green fields and happy horses at Ashford Stud for the Triple Crown Trot 5K!"

PURE-BRED MANX CATS (An update!)

Still no tail on da b***y, still super cutey, and several still looking for their forever homes! These guys are all super sweet and sociable, but they have complicated medical history and potentially life-long medical needs, so please read below if you're interested in adopting; it is important. (And yes, y'all, they are all already fixed and even if they weren't it would not be optional)

These cats came to us from a home with more than 50 cats. Due to their previous living conditions, they arrived with multiple upper respiratory ailments (including drug-resistant and zoonotic diseases), and it is impossible to know what all they have been exposed to, both in the home and through contact with other cats at cat shows.

The group has been repeatedly PCR tested, cultured, and treated; however, in cases where cats have been so heavily exposed to upper respiratory illness for so long, it is possible that even otherwise-healthy cats may experience recurring bouts of illness over the course of their lives.

If you have other cats at home, there is a risk that these guys might pass something on to them. Have a conversation with your veterinarian about potential risks so you can make an informed adoption decision - if you call to inquire about them we will be happy to provide the full list of everything we've treated so you can share it with your vet.

And...big AND...remember that a cat with potentially chronic, recurring illness will require significantly more veterinary care than an average cat. It's so important to consider the financial commitment you make when you take home any pet, but even more so for a cat with special medical needs.

Pet of the Week: Ruckus!
2 years old, neutered male, rottweiler/German shepherd mix, weighs 120 lbs

"Aw, look at that cute little guy!" Well you're half right! Ruckus is cute as a button, but he's...not exactly little. He's tall and slightly beefy and ready to be your 120 lb big spoon! Or your 120 lb little spoon, don't let us tell you how to live your life.

Ruckus's stature can be intimidating at first glance, but he has been the biggest sweetheart from day one here! He has lived with cats, dogs, and teenage kids before, and he's doing great with house training. Does he pull on a leash? Sure, sometimes! And with a 120 lb dog, you'll definitely know it when you experience it. But overall his leash manners are actually pretty decent, and as a smart young man we're sure he can refine them further once he's out of the hectic kennel environment.
