Join us in celebrating Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day. A special day dedicated to honoring and remembering our beloved pets who have passed away. The term "Rainbow Bridge" is a metaphor and popular poem to describe a peaceful place in the afterlife where deceased pets wait happily and healthily until they can reunite with their owners.

Our lead technician, Caitlyn, is a Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Technician who specializes in end-of-life care and is certified in peaceful euthanasia. We offer this end-of-life service here at Middle River and Catilyn has her own mobile hospice care business, Nellyโ€™s Journey Hospice Care. Our goal is to be there for you and your pet, and you can always entrust us with your care.

We'd love to read about any special pet memories you'd like to share in the comments. Featured, is Caitlyn's sweet dog, Nelly who peacefully passed in 2023.

Blind Dog Day means celebrating all of our sight impaired pups! From genetic caused blindness, age related changes or accidental loss of vision we love them all! Featured here is "Rachel" a shelter pup who was born without eyes (a condition called Anophthalmia). Thankfully Rachel and most other vision impaired dogs get along just fine! They rely heavily on their sense of smell and familiarity in an environment. If you think your furry companion may be experiencing vision loss give us a call to get them scheduled for a vision check up!๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿถ

Last week at MRVH a cat loving client brought this handsome young feral cat in that they named "Jersey" to neuter. Before starting his neuter, our staff saw this strange gum and tooth coloring. Turns out Jersey has a rare hereditary metabolic disorder called Congenital Erythropoietic Porphyria. This means he is low on an enzyme that aids in the production of hemoglobin which can disrupt the formation of red blood cells. This deficiency causes lifelong tooth discoloration and skin photosensitivity but usually no other major issues. Jersey is now neutered and learning how to be a tame, inside cat!

With school starting back and schedules changing, your pets may become very stressed. Recognizing these signs early or even preventing them is the best way to help pets adjust to the change of routine! If your furry child is experiencing any of these symptoms as your two-legged children return to class give us a call and we can help them start feeling better!

๐Ÿšง IMPORTANT CONSTRUCTION UPDATE โ€” TENTATIVE TEMPORARY CLOSURE ๐Ÿšง

As many of you know, VES is currently undergoing renovations to improve our facility and allow us to better serve our patients, clients, and community. We are excited about the progress being made, but construction sometimes comes with unexpected changes to the timeline.

To allow our construction teams full and uninterrupted access to our treatment area and, most importantly, to ensure the safety of our patients, clients, and team, we are currently planning a tentative temporary closure:

๐Ÿ“… Tuesday, August 18 at 7:00 AM through Thursday, August 20 at 8:00 AM

โš ๏ธ PLEASE NOTE: This closure is currently TENTATIVE. We will provide a final confirmation on Monday, August 17 once we know the preceding phases of construction have been fully completed and the treatment-area renovation is ready to begin.

During the closure, VES will not be able to receive or treat patients. If your pet experiences an emergency during this time, please contact one of the following facilities:

๐Ÿพ Hollymead Veterinary Hospital โ€“ Charlottesville
๐Ÿ“ž (434) 436-2250
Emergency availability: 8:00 AMโ€“8:00 PM

๐Ÿพ Emergency Veterinary & Specialty Services of Roanoke
๐Ÿ“ž (540) 417-1530

๐Ÿพ Valley Veterinary Emergency Hospital and Referral Center โ€“ Wi******er
๐Ÿ“ž (540) 662-7811

๐Ÿพ Virginia Veterinary Specialty & Emergency โ€“ Charlottesville
๐Ÿ“ž (434) 202-2987

We strongly recommend calling the facility prior to traveling to confirm their current availability and ability to receive your pet.

๐Ÿพ Our goal is to complete this phase as quickly and safely as possible so we can return to providing the 24/7 emergency care our community depends on in our newly improved space.

We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding, and support throughout our renovations. โค๏ธ

Please watch our page Monday for final confirmation of the closure and any additional updates.
