“Should the dog be able to recognize the cue and deliver the correct action, then we should be stunned, in awe, and deliver that piece of chicken.” 🍗 🤩

None of us have "taught a dog to sit". Nope, not you, not me, no trainer has EVER taught a dog to sit. Dogs arrived knowing how to sit. They sit at about two weeks, before their ears open to hear a human command to "sit". They sit to watch the sun move across the floor, think about yesterday's dinner and wonder if they can reach that bird before it flies away.

Dogs were not only born knowing how to sit, they sit many times a day for hundreds of different reasons without any help from us. Your task as a teacher and communicator is to label this particular action of sitting so that you can call on it when you need it. Should the dog be able to recognise the cue and deliver the correct action, then we should be stunned, in awe, and deliver that piece of chicken! Wow
