We want to be completely transparent about this sweet boy's medical history. This is our blue collar male, Benedict. During the first few days after birth, he unfortunately sustained trauma to one of his eyes. We suspect Mackenzie accidentally stepped on him. We sought veterinary care immediately and diligently treated the injury with prescribed eye drops to help prevent infection. Despite our best efforts and appropriate medical treatment, the initial trauma caused irreversible damage to the eye.
After evaluation, our veterinarian determined that the eye cannot be saved and that surgical removal (enucleation) is the best option to ensure he remains comfortable and pain-free. While this is certainly not the outcome we had hoped for, puppies adapt remarkably well to having one eye and typically go on to live happy, healthy, active lives with little to no limitation.
He is otherwise doing well, is receiving the care he needs, and will continue to be closely monitored throughout his recovery. Our priority has always been his health, comfort, and overall quality of life.
