Not all recoveries have the outcome that we want, but we still find a silver lining when we can bring a pet home. With a giant DogueDeBordeaux, we did just that. Grab a tissue, and come along.
Bodhi went missing out on the Key Peninsula July 19. Sue Gormley out of the kindness of her heart, and a work connection, met a grieving family member and took it upon herself to find Bodhi. For months, she posted on social media, put up posters, contacted as many people as possible to help in the search - Bodhi was not to be found, vanished, without a trace. She refused to give up. Then on Oct 2, Sue got a phone call indicating Bodhi had been found, the outcome was not a good one and heaven had called Bodhi home. Immediately, we jumped in and offered to recover the remains. Not knowing what we were actually dealing with, I reached out to the FD to see if I could get some extra large bags for this sensitive recovery. Unknowingly, they not only obliged, they showed up at our home to assist, but that is not where Bodhi was resting. I made some phone calls, and Sean and I went out to recover Bodhi. His final resting place was near Gateway Park. We delivered his remains to Over the Bridge Pet Crematory in Olalla, and they did a beautiful job.
Yesterday, we brought Bodhi home for good on a beautiful fall day.

Once again, thankful for this community, and the good in people. ALL the shares and support was overwhelming. We wish this outcome had been different, but closure is so very important for families in this circumstance.

We are sorry we never actually got to meet you in person. May you rest in peace Bodhi.

On Wednesday, Kitsap Animal Control reached out for assistance with trapping a dog from house fire, that they just had not been able to get safe. We indicated were were on another case, but would be happy to bring out a camera and share some ideas that maybe the team hadn't tried yet. We met onsite on Thursday, made some adjustments and had a brief visitor Thursday night. We offered to reset the trap on Friday with some delicious rotisserie chicken, leftover from Petunia's trapping, and boom, pup is safe!

Not sure if it was hunger or new tricks that got this boy, but am grateful he is no longer a wandering spirit in the despair around him. He will also receive the medical care he obviously needed.
Thank you Kitsap Humane Society.

Survival mode..this was Dougie, missing for 19 days, watch his flip, from freaked out, to.....MOM...

This is a prime example of survival mode. Dogs don't recognize, they are just scared and trying to stay alive.

Do not call out
Do not chase

In between recoveries, we spent over two months (this started early June), working on cleaning out a puppy mill.
13 dogs and multiple puppies are making their way to a new life. It all started with a little stray pregnant dog, that nobody looked for.

Thank you,
