Knotalotta Acres

Knotalotta Acres Started in 2013 with the goal of producing our own food. We proudly raise rabbits, chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, and bees, as well as garden.

We technically began our journey in 2010 with the hopes of having a successful garden. We harvested everything from corn to beans and herbs to lettuce. It was decent, but we both learned a lot from that first garden. In 2011 we had a little more luck with our produce and we added a flock of chickens. We built a chicken tractor and they spent much of their time grazing in the yard. However we had b

igger plans for them. In 2012 we moved the garden to a larger part of the yard, and let the chickens have that space to roam. We also added some guinea hens and ducks to our flock, which we later decided wasn't such a good idea and traded them for some bantams. In 2012, we harvested 400+ pounds of produce. Yet again we had bigger plans for the following year...

This year we have added meat birds (cornish X rocks), and are adding Black Australorps, Auraucanas, and White Orpingtons. We are trying to produce our own meat chickens for a whole year. On top of adding meat chickens, we also added some Flemish Giants, Anne and Henry, who produced a litter of 7 on 1/23/13. We are hoping to crossbreed with either Californians or New Zealands for a smaller meat rabbit. Our other goal for 2013 is to produce 800+ pounds of produce. So join us on our journey of trials and tribulations. We hope to inspire everyone in our approach to a more simple, self sufficient life. We'll be doing everything from butchering our first rabbits and meat birds, canning and food preservation, producing heirloom fruits and vegetables, cooking with our produce and home grown meat, and everything in between.

I took advantage of this unusually cool, rainy day and made jams.

I started out making strawberry and decided while I was at it I would make ground cherry too. I saved and froze about 16 cups of ground cherries last year to make jam over the winter...but that never happened 🤣

If you haven't had ground cherry jam, you have been missing out!!! Think pineapple mixed with caramel. It is such a unique jam and one of my favorites!!!

I ended up with 8 pints of strawberry and 9 pints of ground cherry. All of which will be for sale at the stand tomorrow!!!

I make our jams with organic cane sugar and organic lemon juice. Our fruits are grown without the use of any "-cides" so I would consider them organic as well. So if you buy our jams, you know you're getting a product that you can feel good about eating and feeding to your family ❤️

Half pints will be $6

Apparently yesterday's Made on the Farm Monday meal didn't post 😒

We had venison burgers on homemade buns, topped with fresh lettuce, home canned pickles and homemade ketchup. Alongside salad made with fresh greens, radishes, pickled beets and various other toppings.

I really have missed "salad season"!! I love our homegrown lettuce and find store bought lettuce just bland and 😝 So I really only eat salads in the summer, when all the veggies and greens are fresh.
