Founded in 1897, the Humane Society for Southwest Washington is the largest and oldest animal welfare organization in Southwest Washington. HSSW is an independent nonprofit with campuses in Vancouver and Longview, Washington. Each year, HSSW cares for thousands of pets. We provide shelter to lost and stray animals, a refuge from abuse and neglect, essential medical care, and a lifesaving second ch

ance. Our commitment to the pets and people of Southwest Washington extends beyond the shelter, providing critical support to pets and families with Wellness Clinics, pet food assistance, spay/neuter, emergency boarding, financial assistance, and other programs that help keep families together. We also own and operate ReTails Thrift Store. Giving new life to gently-used items, every purchase and donation at ReTails supports our lifesaving work with the animals. An evening dedicated to some of our favorite people✨

This last Tuesday, we had the joy of celebrating our amazing volunteers and everything they do for the animals in our care. Their kindness, commitment, and generosity make our work possible.

Thank you for showing up, stepping up, and making a difference every day. We appreciate you more than words can say💙 And a huge thank you to Loyal Legion Washington as well, for graciously hosting us for the night!

🥳 Cue the party hats!

One year ago, we opened the doors of the Nierenberg Community Veterinary Clinic and the Swigert Family Behavior & Training Center. Since then, thousands of pets and their people have walked through our doors and found the care, support, and resources they needed.

What an incredible first year it’s been:
🐾 9,493 veterinary appointments
🐾 3,775 spay/neuter surgeries
🐾 1,616 wellness exams
🐾 889 sick pets treated
🐾 444 dental procedures
🐾 382 dogs supported through training and behavior services

But these numbers only tell part of the story. Behind every appointment, consultation, and dog training class is a beloved pet and a family who received the support they needed.

Thank you to our staff, volunteers, donors, partners, and community members who made this extraordinary first year possible. Because of you, pets and people are healthier, happier, and together.

And we’re just getting started❤️

So let’s try this again:
Meet Bart! This resilient little puppy came to us at less than a week old after being found abandoned on a front porch. Born with three legs, he still managed to win over everyone he met with his sweet, playful personality and endless determination. This lovable boy’s journey to a forever home wasn’t an easy one, but today we’re celebrating the happiest update possible: he’s officially going home!

Honestly, our favorite adoption posts are the ones where we get to pivot midway through 🐾💕
