Stop fighting the leash and start teaching your dog how to walk with you. ✨️

Here are 3 game-changing things to practice before you even think about heading down the block:

1️⃣ Walk in circles: Changing directions unpredictably keeps your dog's attention glued to your movement instead of scanning the horizon for distractions.

2️⃣ When you stop, they stop: Build a hard rule that forward motion ends the second your feet plant. No more dragging you toward the grass.

3️⃣Reward engagement: The second they check in with you or offer a clean sit upon stopping, mark it instantly and pay up. What gets rewarded gets repeated.

If your puppy is under a year old, they are going to go through two major fear periods that can completely change how they interact with the world. 🐶⚠️

During these windows, your puppy's brain is rewiring. Things they used to love (or didn't care about) can suddenly terrify them, and a bad experience here can stick with them for life.

When do they happen?

1️⃣ First Fear Period: Usually around 8 to 11 weeks old (often right when they come home with you!).

2️⃣ Second Fear Period: Happens during adolescence, typically anywhere between 6 to 14 months old.

How to handle them like a pro:

Take them out: New owners are scared of sicknesses as they should be. But you dont want to miss your puppy experiencing new things in a safe and managed way. Don't have them walk on the ground but maybe sit in a car or a shopping cart! Puppies dont need to play with other dogs, allow them to visually observe them from a distance.

Don't force it: If they are scared of something, don't drag them toward it or punish them. Let them observe from a safe distance.

Keep it positive: Pair scary or new things with high-value treats and gentle reassurance.

Pause heavy socialization: If they are in a fear spike, dial back the intensity of new environments until they level out.
