Welcome to the Wellhaven family, Dr. Calcagno! We are thrilled to have you join our team of dedicated and passionate doctors. Your background in Oregon and your education from Oregon State University make you a perfect fit for our WellHaven Mill Plain location!

We are excited to learn from your expertise and knowledge in fear free practices, dentistry, and feline medicine. Your passion for providing the best care for our furry friends aligns perfectly with our values at Wellhaven.

Not only are you an accomplished veterinarian, but you also have two adorable companions of your own – Mina and Juju. We can't wait for them to meet their new colleagues at the clinic.

In your free time, we hope you find some relaxation through reading and gaming with friends. It's important for all of us to have hobbies outside of work, and we're glad that you have found yours.

Once again, welcome to the Wellhaven family, Dr. Calcagno. We look forward to working together and making a positive impact on the lives of animals in our community.

Happy 4th of July from your friends at WellHaven Pet Health!

Here are 5 tips for you and your pets on this holiday!

1. Keep pets indoors: The loud noises and bright lights of fireworks can be extremely frightening for pets. Make sure to keep them in a secure and quiet room inside the house.

2. Create a safe space: Set up a cozy and comfortable area for your pet to retreat to if they are feeling overwhelmed by the festivities. This could be a crate or a favorite hiding spot.

3. Drown out the noise: Turning on some soothing music or white noise can help drown out the sound of fireworks and make your pet feel more at ease.

4. Avoid taking pets to fireworks displays: Even if your pet is usually well-behaved, the loud noises and crowded environment of a fireworks display can cause them to panic or potentially get lost in the chaos.

5. Update identification tags: In case your pet does happen to escape during Fourth of July celebrations, make sure their ID tags are up-to-date with current contact information.

It is forecasted to be 109 degrees in Portland this weekend!! Many areas of the country are experiencing records high temperatures -- PLEASE don't forget about your furry house companions!! Don't go for long walks, DO NOT leave them outside or in a car. Low key exercise only and watch for signs of distress like heavy panting, weakness, collapse and disorientation.
Remember that one of the best ways to keep pets cool is a fan - you can also place "cool" (not cold) wash cloths or towels over the pet and have fan blow over the animal.
If you think your pet is experiencing heat stroke this is a medical EMERGENCY! Seek help from your veterinarian or local ER clinic immediately.

Learn the signs of heat exhaustion & heat stroke in your dog, as well as how to tell if he's overheating and what to do in that emergency.

Talking from personal experience, please don’t have lilies in your home if you have cats!! They can kill- call the local ER clinic immediately if you suspect your cat has been exposed or eaten lilies.

Easter is coming up soon. We want to remind you that Easter lilies kill cats. Please don’t keep these anywhere in your home if you have a cat and don’t gift them if you think there are pets in the home. If you suspect your cat has licked or eaten a leaf or a flower please bring them in immediately.
