Well, it finally happened. Very nearly lost a male today due to his girlfriend thinking he was a literal snack.🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️😳

Came home this afternoon to check on them (they were locked when I checked the time before!) and I guess I arrived just in the nick of time for this guy, thankfully!

I was able to take him out and give him a warm diluted clorhexidine soak (with a bit of blue Dawn for extra measure) and then gently applied original, regular Neosporin (without the pain relief!!) with q-tips and got him set up in a hospital bin. Poor guy though!

Of course it would be this girl. I've been worried about exactly this with her since she arrived last year and immediately chomped me through gloves when I unpacked her by way of an introduction 😬

Thoughts/ prayers/ good juju - whatever you believe in - for this guy's recovery and healing!! Thinking about changing his name to "Jagger" to go with his cool scars I'm sure he'll have.

It's been a minute, cuz... life. But I wanted to share my beautiful new pet/baby, Gru! He's an Arctic Caramel that my buddy Nick and Kristi sent me since Gru's mom (Maisie) was one of my original breeders and her little guy needed a home. He hatched with a kink that gives him a hunchback look, hence the name, but he's a really sweet little guy and will eventually be setup in a low rider tank in my office after our move, with his office pal Quasi Bella (the little kinked Arctic PPE I hatched this year) as a neighbor!

Very excited to have this little piece of Maisie with me 🫶🏻🫶🏻🥹⚜️

Well, this was the last clutch in the incubator for this season over here, and it was the triple clutch from our girl Lainey. Even though we didn't hit on Swiss with the low odds of the parents, some of the offspring definitely have a Swiss look to them, so I am betting that they are the hets.

Even so, it was really good to hatch out a bunch of wild type babies this year - it gave me a chance to appreciate the intrinsic beauty of the Western Hognose all over again 🥰

I hate this time of the season when the incubator is emptying. After our cross-country move, I will definitely be rotating groups through brumation to avoid this horrible feeling of loss 🤣

Y'all ever have a baby that just literally worms its way into your heart and you can't explain it? I think that's this guy. Genetically, nothing spectacular or groundbreaking (Arctic 66% Axanthic/Sable).... But he's just so different and I find him to be really beautiful. I didn't think his funky look could get better, but he just had his first growth shed and his mom's yellows are starting to come out in his coloration - that should be interesting to watch!

Let's be honest though, he had me from menace hatchling (see last pic!) 🤣🤣🤣🤷🏻‍♀️✌🏻🫶🏻🐍⚜️
