✨ Tech Week Staff Shoutout: Rose! ✨

Rose has been in veterinary medicine for almost 11 years, an LVT for a year and a half, and part of the CVC team for 2 years! She leads our dental department and keeps our social media running! 🦷📸

Outside of work, Rose enjoys sleeping, volunteering with local wildlife rescues to rehabilitate orphaned wildlife, listening to Taylor Swift, Sunday brunch with her BFF, and creating floral arrangements. 🥀

Fun fact: At the ripe age of 7, Rose knew she was going to be either a veterinary technician or a Disney princess; there were never any other career aspirations. We think she found a way to bring both of those dreams to life!

And now, stepping out of the third person since I have blown my cover as the face behind social media, I want to say thank you to the extraordinary LVTs I have the privilege of working alongside every day. Transitioning from veterinary assistant to licensed technician last year was a big change, and I’m still finding my footing. Through it all, I’ve been met with endless encouragement, guidance, and patience. I’m incredibly grateful to learn from and work alongside such amazing technicians. ❤️

✨ Tech Week Staff Shoutout: Lisa! ✨

Lisa has been in veterinary medicine for 21 years, a credentialed veterinary technician for 18 years, and part of the Columbia Veterinary Center team for almost 2 years! 🐾

Lisa leads our inventory team and helps run our surgical training department, sharing her knowledge and experience to support both our staff and the high-quality care we provide to our patients. She also loves building relationships with clients and getting to watch our patients grow from tiny puppies and kittens into adulthood. She appreciates the teamwork at CVC and how everyone works together to provide the best care for our patients.

Outside of work, Lisa enjoys spending time with her dogs, doing puzzles, photography, taking in beautiful scenery, and trying new food trucks. A fun fact about Lisa? She was born and raised in Michigan, moved to California, and eventually made the move to Washington all by herself, without knowing anyone, drawn by the beautiful scenery and wonderful weather! 🌲📸 And despite spending 21 years in veterinary medicine, she’s allergic to most animals! 😂

Lisa, your years of experience, caring nature, and dedication make such a difference to our team and the pets we care for. We’re grateful to have you as part of the CVC family!

Jehny has been in veterinary medicine for almost 21 years, a credentialed veterinary technician for 17 years, and part of the CVC team for the past 4 years! 🐾

One of Jehny’s favorite parts of the job is helping patients go from sick to stable, working alongside a dedicated support team, and building meaningful bonds between clients and their pets. ❤️

Outside of work, Jehny enjoys yoga, spending time with family, and exploring new places!

Today, we said goodbye to our beloved clinic cat, Journey. 🤍

Any living being would be so lucky to be loved the way Journey was loved. She spent her final moments surrounded by so many people who cherished her, and while saying goodbye is never easy, we find comfort in knowing just how deeply she was loved until the very end.

Journey was so much more than our clinic cat. She was family. She was a familiar face, a comforting presence, and a little piece of our hearts that made our clinic feel like home. She touched the lives of so many people, and the love we have for her will always be a part of this place.

Some goodbyes are especially hard because the love behind them is so big. Journey, thank you for being ours. You were loved beyond measure, and you will be missed more than words could ever express. You may no longer be here to greet us each day, but you will forever have a place in our hearts. Rest peacefully, sweet girl. You were so, so loved. 🐾

Our team is grieving this profound loss, so you may notice that our staff are a little quieter or more solemn than usual as we navigate saying goodbye to such a special member of our family. We appreciate your kindness, patience, and understanding as we take the time to grieve our sweet Journey. ❤️‍🩹

✨Tech Week Staff Shoutout: Elise!✨

Elise is our Lead LVT here at Columbia Veterinary Center and has been in veterinary medicine for an incredible 29 years, with about 8 of those spent here at CVC! We’re so lucky to have her experience and knowledge on our team.

A few fun facts about Elise! Her hometown is Honolulu, Hawaii 🌺, she loves fall weather, trying new restaurants around the area, and exploring the Pacific Northwest with her family. She’s also a proud cat mom to Sweetums. 🐈

And here’s a fun fact: Elise appeared in an episode or two of Emergency Vets on Animal Planet back in 2000! She says “If you squint hard enough, you might see me!” 👀

Happy National Vet Tech Appreciation Week!

Today marks the start of a week dedicated to celebrating the skilled, compassionate, and hardworking credentialed veterinary technicians who help keep veterinary medicine moving! 🥳

Did you know veterinary technicians complete a college degree in veterinary technology, receive extensive hands-on training and clinical experience, learn the medicine and handling of multiple species, and pass the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE), along with applicable state licensing or credentialing requirements?

And once they’re in the field? They do a little bit of everything.

Nursing: Patient assessments, triage, treatments, medication administration, and client education.

Anesthesia: Drug calculations, induction, intubation, anesthetic monitoring, pain management, and recovery.

Imaging: Radiographs and assisting with other diagnostic imaging procedures.

Laboratory: Bloodwork, cytology, urinalysis, f***l testing, and sample collection.

Dentistry: Dental cleanings, dental radiographs, oral assessments, and assisting with dental procedures.

Surgery: Patient preparation, sterile technique, surgical assistance, instrument care, and perioperative monitoring.

Emergency medicine: Stabilization, critical care, CPR, and monitoring hospitalized patients.

Patient advocacy: Low-stress handling, recognizing pain, monitoring behavior, and speaking up for patients who cannot speak for themselves.

Education & leadership: Training team members, mentoring students, educating clients, maintaining medical records, managing equipment, and helping keep the entire hospital running.

And that still doesn’t cover everything. Veterinary technicians can specialize in fields ranging from anesthesia and emergency medicine to dentistry, oncology, behavior, and zoological medicine.

They are medical professionals, educators, advocates, and an essential part of the veterinary healthcare team. They celebrate the wins, hold hands through the hard conversations, comfort frightened patients, and carry the weight of cases that stay with them long after their shifts end.
