These photos are a great example of why we don’t recommend bones for dogs.

For wild wolves, chewing through bones is part of survival, but it can also contribute to significant wear and broken teeth over time. Our dogs have safer options.

Regular brushing and dental chews approved by the Veterinary Oral Health Council can help keep plaque and calculus levels down between professional dental cleanings, without the same risk of tooth damage.

Most of us probably don’t need another reason to smile at our dogs, but science gave us one anyway. 😊🐶

Researchers at the University of Vienna (Universität Wien ) used fMRI to look at how dogs’ brains respond to different human facial expressions. They found that happy faces activated areas involved in reward and social processing, suggesting that seeing a happy human face may be rewarding for dogs, too!

Azrael has complex medical needs and a dedicated team of specialists supporting him. After his exam, he settled into a chair while his family spoke with Dr. Sievers about his ongoing care plan.

Azrael previously received a kidney transplant at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, also receives care from Sunstone Veterinary Clinic, and will be scheduling a consultation with our Board-Certified Veterinary Anesthesiologist.

We’re grateful to be part of the large team caring for this very special patient.

Her duties include supervising Heather, staying cozy in her sling, and being impossibly cute!

Sometimes the smallest fragments cause the biggest problems.

This little retained root tip was preventing the inflammation in the back of this patient’s mouth from resolving. Once it was located with Cone Beam CT and removed, the redness and inflammation cleared.

Advanced imaging can make a big difference, especially when the problem is too small to easily see on radiographs alone.

You can take the veterinarian out of the office, send her to Greece for continuing education, surround her with ancient ruins… and she will still find the cats.

Dr. Sievers took most of these photos while visiting Delos, a World Heritage Site near Mykonos. Greece has a well-earned reputation for its feline residents, and the cats of Delos did not disappoint!
