Good morning and Happy FriYay! Our office will be open today 8/14/26 from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm, thanks to our determined “skeleton crew”! In the aftermath of the storms, staff availability has been limited.
Here’s a few pix of our crew today 🎶 Donna on phones & greeting clients, Dr J on site for the assists, Koda the office ambassador, KramerBird official hospital jester to bring smiles, the two fuzzy fur-faced deerhounds ViVi & Finn and the ever-present Radar cat.

Dearest Southlane clients: posting our status for office availability & severely limited hours today 8/12/26:
We have no phones or WiFi and extremely limited staffing due to storm damages with impact to every one of our staff. We will have a “skeleton crew” on delayed opening for a few hours at least.
All surgeries and general anesthesia procedures are going to be rescheduled today.
We have ongoing limited access to Southlane due to repaving of Sturdy Road south of 30 and Pennahill Rd from Sturdy toward Walmart . Barriers are up.😔

UPDATE 11:30 AM : Southlane will be closed today due to the county closing & paving the roads( Sturdy & Pennahill) in front of our entrance & exit drives all while expecting another bad “derecho” to barrel through in a bit. Stay home & stay safe if you can!

Due to massive power outages , structural and tree damages to many neighborhoods, facilities & businesses -as well as ill-advised overall travel
conditions in the region , Southlane will be closed today Weds 8/12 with the possibility of a delayed opening * by 1 pm to 5 pm.
*(Subject to the ability of our staff & vet to make it safely from their own storm ravaged home to the veterinary hospital.)
Watch this page for updates as our region is again at risk for another session of Mother Nature’s rage today!
Please stay home and stay safe as much as possible under these crazy circumstances.

We don't often get patients this tiny!!! 🥹 "Kitten" is a 28-day-old orphaned kitten that presented last night after he bit off and swallowed a rubber ni**le while being bottle fed. He's about the size & weight of a desktop computer mouse!
Props to the skilled staff at EVCC-Mishawaka & -Westville to coordinate this guy's care. We were able to pass the endoscope, pluck out the ni**le, and get him home, ...with a recommendation to transition to solid food! 😺

Pacifiers have always been a huge favorite for all kinds of babies; ...human, canine, and feline! 🤣 We regularly have to retrieve these endoscopically from pets that have swallowed them.
Lemon is a 4-month-old Golden Retriever who fell victim to the temptation last night. But this was hands-down the biggest pacifier we've ever seen! It's a wonder she could get it in her mouth, let alone swallow it. 😵‍💫 Lemon recovered quickly and was home soon after her procedure. Thanks for the help Dr. Fessenden, Amy, Jen, and Jasmine!
