Brutus had a toe injury and needed a vet visit. He loved most of his foot treatments because he got belly rubs while they were done and all the attention from Kayla! The foot bandage was not his favorite but he was still such a good boy and got even more attention. Look at that happy dog face! šŸ˜

šŸ”„ Know the signs of heat stroke! Recognize the early symptoms like panting non-stop where the pet is physically unable to stop panting even for a treat. Weak and may be unable to walk normally anymore.
šŸ› You can rinse your pet down in tepid water, NOT cold water, to help dispurse the heat away from the skin and fur. Also, put the animal in front of a fan for evaporative cooling. Only offer drinking water once they have cooled down enough to control their panting so they do not aspirate on it.
āš ļø If you cannot catch the early signs of heat stroke it can turn fatal quick. Call your veterinarian or closest emergency veterinarian to tell them you are on your way so that they may have treatments ready by the time you arrive. Calling ahead also ensures the veterinarian is not in surgery or otherwise unable to help your pet and you can reroute to an emergency urgent care clinic if necessary for the quickest treatment possible.

šŸ”„ Please plan ahead to avoid leaving pets in cars, even if "the a/c is on" problems can happen.
šŸ”„ Make sure to have plenty of fresh clean water for animals to stay hydrated.
šŸ”„ Pets with medical issues like cardiac disease or asthma should have a 10 minute MAXIMUM time outside in hot weather and ZERO time in a hot vehicle.

šŸ’© Every year we see more and more parasites. We always advise screening every pet for a f***l test at least once a year including dogs, cats, ferrets, birds, iguanas, rabbits and monkeys. Doesn't matter what pet you have, they all can have parasites that are only visible on the microscope and that yearly test is how we find them.
šŸ’© The weather isn't cold enough during "winter" to kill them off and reduce their numbers. Keeping pet waste clear from the yard or litterbox helps reduce the chances of picking up parasites and eliminating standing water like downspout puddles or rain barrels reduces exposure as well.
šŸ’© Skipped monthly preventatives give parasites a chance to infect. The "heartworm medications" we recommend monthly for pets also deworms your pet for a lot of intestinal and skin parasites too.
šŸ’© Effective flea prevention eliminates fleas which spread tapeworms when they bite. Scam online flea and tick products sold by companies without EPA or FDA regulations are ineffective but remain popular since they are cheap and claim to work and be all natural despite any actual proof because most pet owners dont see fleas, even if there is a full scale infestation.

Take home message: if you haven't had all your pets f***l samples tested yet this year, please drop off their p**p samples asap to make sure nothing is hurting them on the inside.

When we assess dental health in animals it is hard to see the full extent of the disease while they are awake. This cat had been losing weight and had stinky breath. On yearly exam we could tell there were serious dental disease and pain but we could not examine the tooth like we do in this video to know the roots were rotting and the tooth was dead.
For dental procedures pets are fully anesthetized, have an IV catheter, are intubated with an endotracheal tube and kept on constant anesthesia and monitored by specialized equipment and personnel. After a specialized cleaning they get oral nerve blocks and any necessary extractions are done by the veterinarian. They are rinsed and polished after any extractions and then patients are woke up from anesthesia. Once they are fully recovered they go home and usually eat much better after painful teeth like this are gone.

šŸŒž Hello Summer Vacation!
Please be aware of rising temperatures.
Take walks in early mornings or on shaded routes so the sidewalks are cooler.
Plan your trips so that no pets have to sit in the car during a grocery run and overheat.
Make sure yard supplies, bbq and pool chemicals are out of reach.
Always offer plenty of fresh filtered water to keep pets fully hydrated.

Its the first of the month, have you given your pets their heartworm and flea/tick medications?
These micro-doses given monthly are safe and effective ways to keep your pets free from heartworms, fleas, ticks, and most interstitial parasites that are also able to spread to the humans in your household.
Essential oils dont do that. Ultrasonic sound waves dont do that. Shampoos and baths dont do that. Spraying your yard does help but is not as completely effective. Stop wasting money and time on gimmicks and use what is guaranteed to work and veterinarians preferr. Some of our top picks are Heartgard, Nexgard, Nexgard Plus, Nexgard Combo, Revolution Plus, Advantix II, Seresto, and Credelio Quattro. There are many more options that we can also talk about at your next appointment or on your next phone call.
Protection and prevention matter.
