.History of the White Labrador Retriever

Since the breed’s origin in the 1800’s, Labrador retrievers have gone through many changes in terms of color. The first Labrador retrievers that were bred from St. John’s Water Dogs were typically black with a white spot on the chest. Over time, however, a preference for lighter colors developed among dog owners and yellow labs became the favorite. That trend continues to progress, making white Labradors a hot commodity in recent times. Though these dogs must be registered as yellow labs, their coat color is usually so light that it looks more white than yellow.
