โForage-based dietsโ seem to be very popular right now in the horse worldโฆ but what do they actually mean for your horseโs health?
The truth is, most horses should already be eating a forage-based diet. Hay and pasture should make up the majority of their daily intake.
But hereโs where things get complicated.
Removing grain and other diet components and replacing then with forage pellets, beet pulp, balancers or other fiber sources doesnโt automatically create a balanced diet. In fact, I often see these diets create important nutrient gaps in protein, energy, vitamins, and key minerals.
Two horses eating the exact same hay and forage based diet can still have completely different nutritional needs depending on their body condition, workload, metabolism, and overall health.
Thatโs why understanding your forageโand how it fits into your horseโs entire nutrition programโis so important.
If youโve ever wondered whether your horseโs diet is truly balanced, this upcoming seminar that Iโm teaching is designed for you.
Iโll be covering:
โช๏ธThe proper foundations of a true forage-based diet
โช๏ธHow to evaluate forage quality and understand forage testing
โช๏ธMeeting calorie, protein, vitamin, and mineral requirements
โช๏ธA live demonstration of Body Condition Scoring and body weight methods
โช๏ธCommon misconceptions about forage-based feeding
