NexGen K9 Training With over 20 years in the world of dog training, NexGen K9 is one of the most experienced behavior m

Our experience in dealing with all breeds and most issues gives you the satisfaction of knowing that we have dealt with your issues in the past. We specialize in rehabilitating dogs that exhibit behaviors that are completely inappropriate for the urban environment we live in. Many of the unwanted traits become apparent when dogs are not given the right stimulus that they need to cope with city living. The close proximity of the space we share in city dwelling makes a reactive or aggressive dog stand out. It can also turn dangerous in some cases, injuring other dogs, cats or human adults or children. It is irresponsible for dog owners to allow this behavior to continue. At NexGen K9 we use a combination of techniques or "methods" We constantly update our skills by attending seminars and clinics. This keeps us with a wide array of problem solving skills to employ with your dog and help achieve a balanced four legged partner. NexGen K9 services the entire Bay Area and also Napa Valley Region as well as areas further out.

We are asked quite frequently what type of treats we use. One of our most commonly used treats is this freeze dried Beef Liver. You can cut the pieces into a very small size. It has very little odor and stays fresh in your treat pouch.

Say Hello to Tommy. He is a beautiful GSD who has a mind if his own and isn't afraid to use it. He can react on leash in a big way to other dogs but can also just chill and be all photogenic and stuff 😉

It's been a while since I've posted but Harley is just too cute to keep to myself. He is 16 weeks old and here for all things puppy. It's important that your pup gets all the exposure possible early on and that's what we are doing with him. Basic commands are a great way to give your pup something to do while creating a neutral response to novel stimuli. Look at the comments for more video of this session

All the dogs and I want to wish everyone a happy and safe 4th. Happy Birthday America!

Themis graduated yesterday. She was highly reactive 7 lessons ago. Her owner can now relax at a park while dogs go by. There are still some triggers but her owner now has the skillset to diminish those behaviors. It's all about progress not perfection. Training is a lifetime relationship project. Like any relationship it takes clear communication and patience.
Also in the video is our Board and Train pup, Mateo . He has just completed his first week of training.

One of the most overlooked parts of dog training? Consistency between every person in the home. 🐾

Dogs don’t naturally understand that different gestures, tones of voice, or expectations all mean the same thing. If one family member uses hand signals, another repeats commands multiple times, and someone else changes their tone… dogs can become confused and less confident in what’s being asked.

At NexGen K9, we work with the entire household to create clear communication so your dog learns faster and responds more reliably. Consistent body language, voice cues, timing, and expectations make all the difference.

Training isn’t just about teaching the dog—it’s about teaching humans how to communicate in a way dogs understand. 🐶✨

🎓🐾 Look who graduated… INDY! 🐾🎓

When Indy first started training, this little Mini Aussie was extremely reactive and very insecure around children, strangers, and visitors in the home. Every day, the environment felt overwhelming, and she spent so much time focused on the “what ifs” around her.

Fast forward to today… 💙

Through engagement work, confidence-building, public outings, and learning to focus on her humans rather than the outside chaos, Indy has made HUGE progress. We focused on creating joy in the environment instead of fear — teaching her that she doesn’t have to worry about every sound, person, or movement around her.

Now Indy knows:
✨ Check in with Mom
✨ Stay engaged
✨ Have fun

This girl has worked so hard, and her humans showed up for her every single step of the way. Watching insecure dogs learn confidence and trust is one of the best parts of this job. So proud of you, Indy! 👏🐶

Training isn’t just about teaching the dog — it’s about teaching the human, too. 🐾

One of the best parts of working with Jennifer and Dexter has been watching Jennifer really pick up and apply the tools we worked on together. Consistency, timing, structure, and follow-through make all the difference.

Dogs thrive when their owners understand how to communicate clearly and lead confidently. Dexter’s progress didn’t happen by accident — it happened because Jennifer put in the work at home and stayed committed to the process.

A well-trained dog starts with an educated owner. 👏

🚨 The #3 Mistake Dog Owners Make When Training Their Dogs 🚨

Thinking your dog will “just get used to it.”

Doorbells. Dogs barking. People walking by. Guests coming over. Delivery trucks.

Many owners hope their dog will eventually stop reacting on their own — but without proper guidance, repetition often makes the behavior stronger, not weaker.

Every time your dog explodes at the doorbell or loses focus around another dog, they’re practicing that reaction. Dogs learn through repetition, and unwanted behaviors can quickly become habits.

The good news?
Reactivity can be improved with the right structure, leadership, and training plan. Teaching your dog how to stay calm and make better choices creates confidence for both you and your dog.

Don’t wait for the behavior to “grow out of it.” Train through it. 🐾
