💙☁️ A little sign from above? ☁️💙

I took this picture of my precious boy, Bernard, and when I looked at it later, I noticed the heart-shaped cloud in the sky above him. ❤️

Maybe it’s just a cloud… or maybe it’s one of those little moments that makes you stop and smile.

Bernard has brought so much joy, laughter, and love into our lives. From his goofy emu antics to his endless curiosity, he reminds us every day to appreciate the simple things. Seeing that heart in the sky felt like a perfect reminder of just how much love surrounds this special boy.

Do you see it too? ☁️❤️

🐐❤️ Today was an important health day for some of our goat residents.

Our farm veterinarian, Dr. Michael with Blue Range Mobile Veterinary Services, came out to vaccinate, deworm, trim hooves, and perform wellness exams on nine of our goats.

These goats came to us several years ago from a severe neglect situation after being used in a petting zoo. They arrived needing extensive medical care, proper nutrition, and a safe place to finally call home.

Unfortunately, during today’s exams, Dr. Michael discovered that three of our female goats have areas under their tails that are suspicious for skin cancer. Goats with pink, unpigmented skin under their tails are particularly susceptible to sun-related cancers because that area is often exposed when they hold their tails up.

One of those goats, Favorite, has already undergone treatment at UC Davis for cancer in that same area. Sadly, Dr. Michael identified two new areas of concern that will need further evaluation by the specialists at UC Davis.

While this news is difficult, we are incredibly grateful these issues were caught early. Early detection gives us the best chance of successful treatment and helps ensure these girls remain comfortable and happy.

Today’s veterinary visit totaled $761, and we know additional diagnostics and treatment costs are on the horizon. If you are able to contribute toward today’s bill or help with the upcoming UC Davis appointments, we would be deeply grateful. No amount is too small, and every dollar goes directly toward the care of animals like Favorite and her friends.

❤️ PayPal and Venmo links are in the comments.

Thank you for helping us give these goats the care they deserve. We couldn’t do this without you. 🐐💕

Mabel and Vera Wing are growing up so fast… and somehow getting cuter every single day 🥹❤️🐥

These two little girls have completely stolen our hearts. Mabel continues to do well despite her crossbeak and blind eye, and Vera Wing is never far from her side. Their bond is so special to watch.

Mabel has learned how to adapt beautifully, and both girls are thriving, curious, playful, and always ready to investigate whatever we are doing. They still live in the house but will be moving out front with our special needs flock soon.

Watching animals like Mabel reminds us that being “different” does not stop an animal from living a happy and full life. Animals are incredibly resilient ❤️

We are so grateful we get to watch these sweet girls grow up here at the sanctuary.

🚨🦆 LAST WEEK FOR BRICK ORDERS (FOR THIS INSTALL ROUND) 🦆🚨

This is the final week to order your engraved brick if you would like it included in our first installation at the new duck pond! ❤️

While bricks will continue to be available after this round, all bricks ordered before next week will be installed immediately as part of the first phase of the project.

Everyone who purchases a brick during this round will also be invited to our special invitation only, Pond Warming Party so you can:
🦆 See the duck pond in person
🦆 Meet the ducks you are helping support
🦆 Walk the brick pathway
🦆 Locate your personalized brick
🦆 Celebrate this incredible project with us

This pond is becoming something truly special for our rescued ducks, and every single brick is helping make it possible. The walkway and patio area will become a permanent part of the sanctuary where visitors can sit, enjoy the pond, and remember the compassion that built it. ❤️

Thank you to everyone who has already purchased a brick, shared the fundraiser, or supported this dream in any way. We cannot wait to show you what you helped create.

Please welcome Peaches to the Funky Family ❤️🦆

Unfortunately, Peaches’ mate was killed by a coyote, and her previous home wanted to make sure she would be safe and cared for. We are grateful they trusted us with her.

Peaches is a beautiful Buff Orpington duck with a very sweet and friendly personality. Right now she is settling into quarantine so we can monitor her health and help her adjust comfortably. Once her quarantine period is complete, she will join our flock at the duck pond and begin her new life here at the sanctuary.

We are so happy to give this sweet girl a safe forever home. Welcome, Peaches 🍑🦆❤️

Thank you to Lisa, for sponsoring Peaches.🍑 ❤️

Rain zoomies activated!!! 🌧️💨🖤

Our volunteer Michelle captured Trixie and Bernard absolutely living their best lives in the rain today. These two are completely obsessed with water — pools, sprinklers, misters, mud puddles… and apparently rainstorms too. 😂

Watching them sprint around the yard with their giant emu legs flailing everywhere was pure chaos and pure joy. It’s impossible not to smile when you see animals feeling safe, happy, and free enough to just let loose and play. ❤️

Thank you Michelle for capturing this video and I am glad they put the brakes on before they reached you! 🤣🤣

Corn Nut ❤️

Our crazy 🌽🥜 creating mischief and enjoying the cooler weather today. ❤️

Corn Nut was a 4H “fail.” His horns were not disbudded properly, and he was banded before both of his testicles had dropped. We are so grateful his previous home allowed him to come to rescue.

He’s been with us for over 6 years now. When he first arrived, he was scared to death of the other goats… but he felt right at home with the alpacas. We later found out he actually grew up with alpacas — which explains a lot. In his mind? He is an alpaca. 😂

Corn Nut now lives in his own little “gated community” with Zara, nine alpacas, and our amazing guardian dog, Misha. And every single day, he brings laughter (and sometimes frustration 😅) to this sanctuary.

Ritzy Quackers ❤️🦆
Over 3 years ago, Ritzy was brought to our avian vet with a broken back. Our amazing veterinarian believed that with crate rest and supportive care, he had a chance to heal. Sadly, the people who brought him in didn’t want to put the time, effort, or expense into helping “a $3 duck from Tractor Supply” (their words 😡). Thankfully, they signed him over to the vet instead.

At the time, we weren’t able to take in a duckling, so our vet lovingly cared for Ritzy until he was old enough to live outside.

For years, Ritzy lived happily with his buddy Goose and adapted beautifully despite his injuries. But this past winter, he started struggling more with walking. After another vet visit, we were told that if ducks could get knee replacements… Ritzy would need one. ❤️‍🩹

We moved him into our special needs enclosure with several of our other special needs ducks, and he has been doing really well there. While he’ll never be able to enjoy the large pond because his back and legs simply can’t handle that much walking and activity, he is safe, comfortable, loved, and surrounded by friends who understand his pace of life.

Animals like Ritzy are exactly why rescue matters. A life’s value should never be determined by a price tag. ❤️🦆

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. ❤️🇺🇸

At the sanctuary, we are especially grateful for the freedoms and peace we enjoy because of the sacrifices made by others before us.

As we spend time with family, friends, and the animals we love, we remember those who never made it home.

From all of us here at Funky Chicken Rescue, thank you to the fallen heroes and the families who carry their memory forward. ❤️🐓🦆

Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day. 🇺🇸
