💙Appreciation Spotlight: Bella🐴✨

Great horsemanship, a willingness to learn, a positive attitude, and the right truck playlist can go a long way... and Bella brings all of that to our team at Mass Equine!

Bella has a bright personality and a genuine love for horses that shines through in her work every day. She’s a great horse handler, excellent with our patients, and always eager to learn new techniques and build her skills.

She’s also incredibly dependable and proactive. Whether she’s helping get the truck and equipment ready, making sure everything is set up for the day, or jumping in to support her doctor even when she isn’t riding along with them, Bella consistently looks for ways to be helpful. Her initiative and willingness to go above and beyond make her such a valuable part of our team.

Of course, no truck ride is complete without some good music and the occasional ice cream stop🍦(even though she had a late start to our ice cream challenge, she has made a comeback!)

We’re excited to see Bella continue to grow in her role and are so happy to have her on our team. Thank you Bella, for bringing your enthusiasm, hard work, and love for horses to everything you do💙

Kicking off Veterinary Support Staff Appreciation Week at MEC!

💙Appreciation Spotlight: Kaitlynn🐴🍦🐶

If there’s one person who can get you to any farm without GPS, knows exactly which horse belongs to which client, and can tell you the best place to stop for ice cream along the way, it’s Kaitlynn!

Kaitlynn brings an incredible amount of experience and knowledge to Mass Equine. Her familiarity with our clients, patients, and practice is invaluable, and she has a way of always being one step ahead. Whether she’s helping prep a truck, making sure equipment is ready to go, or jumping in wherever she’s needed, she’s someone our doctors and team can always count on.

She’s an excellent horse handler, a true professional, and always one of the first to volunteer a helping hand. Beyond that, she’s also an amazing friend and teammate who makes even the busiest days run a little smoother.

We’re incredibly lucky to have Kaitlynn (and her two baby boys Jackson and Conway🐾) on our team. Thanks for everything you do for our patients, clients, and all of us💙

💙 Staff Appreciation Spotlight: Dr. Sarah D’Oench! 🐴☕🍦

If you’ve ever needed a restaurant recommendation, someone to call in a bind, or an honest second opinion, Sarah is your person! ❤️

Dr. Sarah joined Massachusetts Equine Clinic in 2003 after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine and completing a joint internship with Tufts and Mass Equine. For more than 23 years, she has been a dedicated veterinarian, mentor, and trusted resource for our team and, most importantly, for the many clients and horses she has cared for throughout her career🩺🐎 Her commitment to her clients and the relationships she has built over the years are a huge part of what makes her such a wonderful vet and team member.

📸 A peek at Sarah’s camera roll? You’ll probably find more Coggins photos and wound pictures than any person needs in their lifetime😂

Sarah is also one of our go-to people when things get complicated. She’s honest, dependable, and never afraid to speak up when it matters. She’s a wonderful mentor and teacher who shares her knowledge generously with our students and interns and supports our team both in and out of the truck. We know we can count on her, and that she is truly invaluable.

When she’s not caring for horses or on the phone with a client, you might find her at Starbucks, tracking down new ice cream spots, traveling, or spending time with family and friends☕🍦✈️

Thank you, Sarah, for more than two decades of dedication to your clients, their horses, and the Mass Equine team. Your experience, honesty, attention to detail, and willingness to show up for others make a real difference every day. We’re so grateful to have you on our team💙

October 10th is World Mental Health Day, raising public awareness of mental health issues around the globe through education and advocacy. 🧠🌎

Veterinarians face long hours, staffing shortages, financial pressures, and other challenges associated with providing medical care to so many animals in need, all of which take a mental toll.

Let's remember to show kindness and patience towards your veterinarian the next time we visit your farm. ♥

🐴 Why Brooming Beats Leaf Blowing in the Barn Aisle 🧹

Keeping your barn clean is essential—but how you clean matters, too!

While leaf blowers may seem like a quick and easy solution, they can stir up significant amounts of dust, mold spores, bedding particles, and other airborne debris. All of that can affect the respiratory health of both horses and humans.

When you sweep with a broom, dust and debris can be collected and removed rather than blasted into the air. This can help:

✅ Reduce airborne dust and particles
✅ Create a healthier breathing environment for horses
✅ Minimize exposure to allergens, mold spores, and other respiratory irritants
✅ Support horses with respiratory conditions such as heaves
✅ Keep dust and debris from settling back onto stalls, feed, tack, and water buckets

Horses spend a significant amount of time in the barn, and their respiratory systems are sensitive to airborne particles. Reducing dust exposure is an important part of good barn management and respiratory health.

The next time you're cleaning the barn aisle, consider reaching for a broom instead of a blower. It may take a little extra effort, but cleaner air is something both horses and humans can breathe easier about! 🐴💨
