Since ballots have hit mail box, I thought I’d take the time to officially post.
My name is Lisa George and I am asking for your support as I run for President of the GWPCA. I am a second-generation breeder of Ripsnorter Kennel,
started by my parents, Helen Witt and Jeff George, and continued now with a third-generation by my daughter, Hadley George. My father branched off and began breeding Pudelpointers while my mother, my daughter, and I have carried on breeding GWP’s under the Ripsnorter prefix. Over the past 50 years, we have been heavily involved in the breed and strove to produce the ideal versatile dog, focusing on preserving the breed's original purpose. We have been involved in the dog show world and NAVHDA but also in many other venues. This breed has been close to me my entire life, and I’ve gotten the pleasure of mentoring many others that now are just as passionate as I am about GWP’s. My hope for this club is for it to continue as strong as possible in order for future generations to have the opportunity to preserve this breed in the same way so many have in previous years.
I believe the GWPCA should belong to all of us, and that every member should have a voice. To me, the foundation of anything good is honesty and transparency, and recently I feel this club has lacked these values. If elected, I want our members to know what their club is doing, why decisions are made, how our resources are being used, and what we are working toward at ALL times. I believe members should have a voice year round, not just when it is time to cast votes. I believe difficult conversations should be handled honestly and upfront, rather than avoided and brushed under the rug. I believe disagreements are inevitable in a group of passionate people, but should be addressed with respect to give us the opportunity to address the issue constructively. Most importantly, I believe leadership means a willingness to listen and grow, even when what you hear may not necessarily be what you want to hear.
The GWPCA has a long history and an incredibly passionate membership. We have breeders, handlers, hunters, trainers, newcomers, and longtime members. I hope to bring all of these people back together as one. I want our younger members to be able to see a future for themselves in our club, just as I did as a child. But above all, I want our focus brought back to what matters, the dogs. Our responsibility as a club is to preserve what makes the German Wirehaired Pointer special: a versatile, functional, and capable hunting dog that can also succeed in the conformation ring and as a companion. This responsibility requires thoughtful breeding, responsible ownership, education, sportsmanship, and a willingness to look honestly at where we are and where we want to go.
I don’t promise that every decision will make everyone happy. I don’t promise that every problem can be solved overnight. But what I can promise is that I will be honest with you. I will communicate with you. I will listen to you. And I will work to make sure that the membership understands not only what is happening within our club, but why.
I have spent most of my life with this breed. It has given me friendships, opportunities, memories, and a lifetime of experiences that I wouldn’t trade for anything. Now I want to give back. I am asking for your vote not because I believe I have all the answers, but because I believe that together, with open communication, transparency, honesty, and respect for one another, we can find the answers together and continue building a GWPCA that our entire membership can be proud to call their club.
Thank you for your trust, your friendship, and your continued dedication to the German Wirehaired Pointer. I would be honored to serve as your President.
