It's Foster Friday 🎉

Meet Johnny Cash! This sweet boy has been in our care for quite some time now, but unfortunately, with no interested adopters, he was able to enter a foster home this fall to get his spirits up and help him socialize a bit more. Now he is ready to find his forever home!

This summer, Johnny came to us with several other dogs from another shelter in need of emergency placement. Johnny was dumped in a rural community, where neighbors took care of him outside. From there, he was bounced around from foster home to foster home. With how strongly this sweet boy bonds with his 'people,' it breaks our hearts to see him in this situation at all.

Johnny is just 2 years old and is certainly packed with energy, even though we think he is secretly aspiring to be a lap dog. Johnny does great on walks, responds well to training, and loves to adventure. We've included a few pictures of him climbing his closest version of the highest peak, so if you are looking for a buddy to accompany you on those long walks and hikes, this is your guy.

In his foster home, Johnny has really enjoyed the company of the other dogs. They have been helping him build his confidence and giving him room to play. He doesn't seem to mind the kitties in the home at all, either. Johnny has also hung out with some children while in his foster home and has done amazingly well with them.

No dog deserves to end up in a shelter after all they've been through. These transitions can be hard for any dog, and Johnny deserves a chance at forever. His foster is even willing to provide a crate for Johnny Cash's new home so he has a comfortable place to rest when no one is home.

Some things are just better in pairs ✌️

Meet Watson and Holmes, two very handsome brothers looking for their forever home! Watson (black and white) and Holmes (brown and white) are still puppies, searching for their place in this big world. Just a few days away from turning eight months old, we believe they have some Border Collie in them, so they're ready to play hard and love even harder!

Right now, Watson is the ringleader, helping Holmes open up and come out of his shell. Both boys will greet you with plenty of kisses and are doing very well learning their manners and staying right by your side. But when it's time to run, they put the zoom in zoomies! They love chasing each other around and picking up a toy or two along the way.

Watson and Holmes currently weigh just around 40 pounds. They have also tested well with other animals at the shelter, and we believe they would enjoy the company of children, whether they're part of the household or frequent visitors. We are open to considering homes with other dogs, cats, and children!

Adopting two dogs at once may sound a little intimidating, but oftentimes, having an already familiar companion by their side can make the transition into a new home easier and help them build confidence in their new surroundings.

We couldn't have asked for a better day at Subaru of Utica's Subaru Loves Pets Adoption Event! 🧡

The incredible team at Subaru of Utica welcomed our staff and adoptable animals with open arms this past weekend and helped us find loving families for 12 of our furry friends! Each family was also sent home with a Subaru gift box filled with plenty of treats, toys, and essentials, including leashes for the pups and scratching pads for the kitties.

Every year, Subaru of Utica hosts its annual Subaru Loves Pets Adoption Event in support of its partnership with the ASPCA and their shared commitment to helping deserving animals find loving homes. We are incredibly grateful for their continued support and dedication to helping us carry out our mission year after year!

Remi needs a fresh start 😔

Remi may look familiar to some, and we're sad to say that this is this sweet girl's third stay at the shelter.

Her first visit was in the early months of this year, when she was surrendered underweight and ill. Her recovery had our staff thrilled, and even more so when she was scooped up and welcomed into a home shortly after. Unfortunately, she has since been returned twice, most recently this past September, both times because her adopters were unable to manage the high energy that comes with a very young pup.

And while her smile is still as big as ever, we can tell this sweet girl's spirit has been crushed.

At just under 2 years old and weighing only 35 pounds, Remi still has plenty of puppy energy as she continues growing into her adult self. Remi absolutely loves being around people! Once she has a few minutes to bond with you, you're her best friend for life. Greeting you quickly becomes her favorite activity, and she can hardly contain her excitement! She's as affectionate as they come, always ready to shower you with kisses, sneak in a hug, or cuddle up as close as possible ❤️

Remi has worked hard to heal, build trust, and learn the ropes of this big world. She would love to be welcomed into an active home that can help her establish a routine, provide consistent training, and, most importantly, show her that she is safe and exactly where she is meant to be. We are open to homes with other dogs, cats, and children for Remi.
